    I now have a very nice '97 Ducati 900SS.
The owners manual, and the Haynes manual fail to advise on safe oil
temperatures. Can any of you advise me what is safe?

  2. Doesn't it have an oil temperature gauge?

Just start worrying if it's pinned against the "Veglia" sympol.

Yes, it's got an oil temp guage, but what's a bad temperature?

Someone there will give you chapter & verse.

    PS: My 750SS doesn't have a gauge.

    900 Celsius. Pretty bad.

If you're worried about it getting hot enough to 'damage' the oil, don't
be (assuming you're using semi/fully synth.). It won't get anywhere near
the temps found in turbo bearings.

Whereas the speedo is supposed to be there. As is the rev counter. And
if you keep them there don't worry about the oil gauge as you won't be
    able to focus on it.

At a guess, and note this is a semi educated guess, about 80-85
    centigrade would be normal.

    100+ I'd be getting twitchy.

  10. There's a thing - is it just me or does that make anyone else's eyes hurt?
