We don't see to many cam's out were I am, but I did see lots in Victoria
while travelling to and from the MotoGP. They all had the box and strobe
out, but after leaving Brisbane heading north I saw some Qld police ones set
up. They didn't have anything outside the vehicle, and had now doors open at
all. So my question is can the Qld speed camera's get you like that? or
where they just slowing down traffic but parking out on the road?

  2. Usually they have the camera unit and a small sign outside the car. The
sign is most often placed so that you don't see it till after you've gone
past, although I believe that is just a tad outside the legislation. The
car itself should also be clearly labelled - quite often it is an unmarked
car/4WD with a large magnetic POLICE banner down the side.

Could be what you saw was "we'll park here to slow everyone down", or they
could be the backup for a hand-held radar that you'd already passed and not
noticed. Could also be the camera unit and sign were just hard to spot.
Doors closed = ready to go or the airconditioner is running... ;-]

The contracted speed camera operators in Victoria came under a bit of
criticism / scrutiny last year from the EPA. Apparently people were dobbing
them in for sitting in their parked cars on the side of the road with the
engine running to keep the air conditioning pumping out cold air. EPA were
not happy with this situation. Not a very environmentally friendly way of
staying cool. If you see this occurring you should report them to the EPA.

There are also quite a few roadside cameras in Victoria that don't use the old box and flash setup.
They have a black box mounted to the front grill of the car. You're never sure it's a camera car
until you go past it and see the front of the car.

Look through the windows as you approach the cars parked on the side of the
road. The camera apparatus set up inside the car in the front passenger seat
    area is usually quite obvious.

Most of the speed camera units in QLD are mounted on the front bumper bar or
bull bar and look as if they are part of it. they have a high intensity
strode type light as part of the unit. About 90% of the time they are setup
    to take front on photos.

Actually, "cam's" is arguably correct when used to refer to cameras (but not when referring to cams).
Then the apostrophe would indicate an abbreviation.....

  10. Actually people are typing Cam's when they should be typing Cam`s, so that
isn`t quite the case either Clem :)

And Smee... you should know which apostrophe is which you teacher you ;-P

Well, if you want to be pedantic, it should be Cam's cams, cameras,
beers, etc.... and the last time the Z50 disgraced itself, it was Cam's
    cam's bearings that seized. :p

    regard's,

If you're going to abbreviate a word, smee, you use an apostrophe. So that
    would make it posse'sive.

Provided the camera vehicle does not have tinted rear and side windows.

And also they have a new unit that is dash mounted on trial too so it is portable.

The exception to what Mick said is most of the cams here in Qld are going to IR now
so they don't need a flash, or at least not a visible one anyway.

Hi Mick, long time no see, been busy? Chatted to Triffid lately?

I've been very busy. I finally have the S running nicely and took it for a
very short ride around the block this afternoon. I still have a few things
to sort out on it before its ready to go back on the road. My main problem
with it is going to be getting the gearing tall enough to keep the bloody
    front wheel on the ground.
I haven't seen or heard from triffid
