Question on AMCN

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Baron Von Rotter, Aug 27, 2004.

  1. I noticed AMCN are claiming they reach 500,000 odd readers and that the
nearest competitor is two wheels magazine with 350,000 odd.

Is the true figure skewed because they are measuring monthly and
therefore AMCN is really only reaching 250,000 ?????

Since AMCN are issing mags every fornight that is.

which do you think is more effective? reaching 350K people once a month
    or 250K people twice a month ?

You'd get some crossover though because some readers would buy both.
    (like me)

  3. IMHO, more hoons and dicks by AMCN, and more people who are riders-for-life
by TeeDub. (Bit of both on each side of course.) TeeDub strikes me as having
a higher "reading age". Think of it as Daily Telegraph vs SMH (here in NSW).

Hey Pat; I want to get into your pants!
    I saw a postie today wearing some dark-blue cargo-type solid-looking dacks
that I reckon would be good for trips (big pockets).
    Are they standard issue?
    Who makes 'em?
    Thanks .... Clem

Circulation and readership are two very different beasties, grasshopper.
AMCN may have only half the paid circulation of Two Wheels, but because it
goes into a house where mum, dad, No 1 son, the next-door neighbour and
Uncle Joe read it, and only one person reads Two Wheels before recycling
it, therefore AMCN has a higher readership for a lower circulation. The
Audit Bureau of Circulation (www.auditbureau.org.au) is an independent
body that assesses this data twice a year and feeds it back to publishers.
It refers to a six-month period.

Hey, if you want a high km very female-shaped tester....

I'm probably shorter and wider than most women who ride bikes that I
see, but I also do a lot more km.

And a manufacturer that can handle women's shapes and make reasonable
looking gear will have a definite niche.

I haven't bothered with buying bike jeans because of the cost and the
guaranteed bad fit of jeans built for guys. If it costs twice what my
normal jeans do, then I want it to fit dammit! And so far the "women's
    fit" don't.

  10. These are the figures for the mags they distribute, doesn't include returns
by agent (unsold copies returned later) , includes subscriptions and
giveaways at events such as EXPO etc, all figures are a bit rubbery

  12. ADA makes them--dunno where they're located.
Thin material, and mine all have huge holes where the left peg rubs against
my inner leg when I'm stopped.
On that basis,my hand should have a hole worn in it too...

We used to get Yakka gear, but I never had their cargo pants--I'd imagine
King Gee or someone would probably have better quality stuff.

    Yup.

The large lump of cash I spent on the custom made Tiger Angel Element
jacket was the best money I've spent in years.

I really didn't realise how uncomfortable and annoying badly fitting
gear is until I wore something that fit properly.

I was utterly pissed off to find that most manufacturers consider
"women" to be size 12 or less and to be apparently at most a B cup and
have no hips. If you judge by the "women's sizes" on the racks at most
    bike shops.

The Element is custom made, and while it's still too loose in the biceps
    - I dunno why but all textile jackets seem to be - it fits wonderfully
    everywehere else.

The sleeves are the right length, the shoulders aren't 4" too wide
either side, I can do the zip up, the neck closure seals closely enough
    I don't need 2 scarves and a safeteypin...

$700 is a lot of money for a jacket, but I wear the damn thing 2 hours
a day in all weathers. Warm, waterproof, comfortable, machine washable,
utterly worth it to me. I expect it won't be good in Sydney summer,
and I'll have to switch to the mesh or leather jackets, but for 9-10
months a year, it will work well.
