I've just had two new tyres (1) fitted to the bike and I can't make up
my mind as to whether I should go and scrub them in now or leave it
until Easter when I'll have forgotten that they're new and just give
it the obligatory 5 miles and they're warm treatment. I know that if I
go out now I'll be tip toeing around and won't get it anywhere near
the edge of the tyre so it'll be pointless but it will at least give
    them a heat cycle.

    (1) Michelin Pilot Power 2CT (2) on the back and Michelin Pilot Sport
Cup on the front. Who needs dual compound tyres on the front ffs?

    (2) I'm ruining that bike. First I fit heated grips and now it's dual
compound tyres. It's just another sports-tourer now.

It seems plenty grippy out at the moment, although I'm still an inch to
go from the edge[1], tis a bugger trying to scrub in tyres without going
    over 4K.

[1] So half an inch from my limits, before anyone pipes up. :)

Big fucking girl, get yourself up the 660 and stop whinging.
Yeah, you might as well put a Macadam up front, it's never going to be
off vertical now you've turned into a nancy boy.
You'll be fitting high bars and Azaros next.

I would have done but I already had the Sport Cup from the days when I
    used to ride fast.
Yesterday I rode to Bristol and turned off the heated grips because
even with summer gloves they were too hot. Today I rode home in fog
and it was bastard freezing so they were on all the time. I suspect
it'll be the end of June before I take them off the bike completely.

Very true, even on my new ER-5. Still I can go up to 6K on my next trip out.

Better explain that statement, what I meant was; I am spending more time
looking at the rev counter than the corner, hence the 1" strips of unused
tyre as opposed to my normal god like 3/4" strips.

This half an inch that is probably quite a big thing to you, is it even
on both tyres? I ask because my minuscule by comparison less than a
centimetre under normal riding and the occasional "**** me did I get it
over that far, no wonder I was having fun" is not the same on both tyres
and has never been regardless of either tyre or bike and this doth piss
me off mightily as I am either paying for something I might never use
and or might be an indication that the profile is not quite as matched
    as it should be.

Well, you can still do 70 mph in 6th so you just need some twisty
lanes. That said, mine are still about an inch from the edge, but
I've already got my knee down on it.

Have you got Dunlop Qualifiers on your bike? Malicious rumour has it
that the Qualifiers on brand new bikes are different to the ones you
can buy at a tyre retailer and I wasn't convinced by the idea that
they're a replacement for the stock D208 rather than the RR version.

There was plenty of grip yesterday and Sunday when I had a good play on my
    10R.

    Photos available ;)

Yep, seemed OK on Sunday for my first proper 'summer bike' outing of
the year on Sunday. The salt residue which still affects most of the
roads in Derbyshire makes me nervous though.

There was plenty of grip Sunday, Monday and today but both my tyres
were in need of replacing. I've never really been bothered about the
100 miles bullshit to scrub a tyre in because I'm more of the belief
that it's heat cycles they need, either one good one or two or three
    short rides.

Yeah, they're the Qualifiers. Can't really say how good they are yet
as I haven't pushed it. They don't seem to bad though.

I imagine I'll switch to BT014s when they're worn out as I'm used to
    them.

I'd agree with that. It's much easier to ride at town speeds than the
GSXR1000 was, and surprisingly a more comfortable riding position. On
the GSXR I used to get cramp in my upper thigh when pressing on but I
don't seem to get that on the 10. Must be a slightly different
relationship between the pegs and the seat.

I'll be honest and say I've been setting myself a 6k rpm limit.
heheh, I've been letting the odd cheek come off the seat.

I couldn't agree with you more on this, I have never adhered to this 100
mile nonsense and I'm sure it's some form of disclaimer to protect the tyre
companies. I usually do some spirited riding followed by some decreasing
figures of eight in a car park. Job done.
