Quadbike disaster

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Kenneth Robottom, Aug 2, 2004.

  1. Went on a quadbike safari in Egypt total disaster couldnt ride the thing,
couldnt turn it totally out of control.
I have ridden a bike 24 - 7 for the last 10 yrs but couldnt adapt - must be
    getting too old.
Anybody else had the same problem?

perhaps you were tired, try riding 22-7 for a couple of years to catch up on
    your sleep.

I managed to crash one in New Zealand earlier this year I put it down to the
false assumption that because it has handlebars and the gearshift is similar
to a motorcycle then it must be like a motorcycle.

Only problem is when you attempt to lean and counter-steer as comes
naturally, you go in the opposite direction to the one you expect. I'm sure
this problem disappears once enough experience is gained but as a beginner
in quad biking, I think that you are actually better off if you have never
    ridden a motorcycle before.

Definately. I went out with a group a couple of weeks ago, and I was
the slowest of the lot until the very end, when I started leaning out of
the bend, as it were... which makes the outer wheels dig in and spin you
round. Once Id got that locked down, I hooned it and loved every minute :)

Do tell. Was Willis playful and enthusiastic during the encounter?

He was the editor of Bike at the time, and very popular he was too. He was
testing a quadbike, fucked up, broke both his wrists. The staff of the
magazine practially wet themselves with dismay, and later voted "this
wonderful device" Bike of the Year...
