Q's about bikes in Blighty

  1. Most one *I* see just Manoeuvre.

Signals are only employed in 'hazard' mode, which seems to mean "I'm
    parking here for five minutes".

  6. As could quite a few 1960s/70s Suzuki. My old 500 twin had the gear
shaft running right through the cases, and the splined stub poking out
of the right for easy gear lever swaps.

  7. I remember some Skoda being recalled because they just ran the brake
pipe under the carpet or something for the RHD conversion, and if (in
panic mode) a front seat passenger instinctively jabbed for a brake
pedal (and I bet we have *all* done that at some time) they could
actually crimp the brake hose and actuate the brakes.

Not all cars work for RHD, though. Renault never engineered the original
    Twingo for it, for example.

No, I'm trying for the casual goad to see if I can stir a couple of
others into getting off their arses and invading Europe again. I
usually manage so snare a least one unknowing fool every year and it's
    been quiet so far.

You'd have to be a compete moron to fall for that.

It used to be less about "like" more about "afford" and "could fix".

    ...it then became "race".

Joking aside, you'd really miss out on some memorable trips if you always
    thought like that.

    Hop to it then.

My preference is still for leaving on (or around) the last weekend in
February thus avoiding the winter tyres rule that finishes on the 28th
    Feb.

One of our number has been noticeably absent recently but last time we
spoke he said he was still coming along.

Despite hating the cold and camping I'm very glad I did the elephant
    run in 2008.

There's still North Africa on 200cc or less to be completed. Perhaps
    setting off from an *OSM?

Odd. Dim childhood memory says that Dad's Zephyr column shift was on
    the left.

My view is that it's well known we'll be doing 'something' early next
year and that 'some' will be doing the Elefant. I really regret not
get myself motivated enough to do this sort of thing years ago and I
don't know anyone who's been and honestly wished they hadn't.

    And you were correct.

I had to turn the battery through 90 degrees to lift it out but it was
certainly less than ten minutes work. **** knows why I'd got it into
my head that it was a bastard or is it that later models are
    different?
