There has been an ongoing dialogue in the RACQ magazine about the legalities
of lane splitting in Queensland. This month, the definitive answer from the
    Queensland Police Service.

"Senior Constable Jeff Douglas from the State Traffic Taskforce said lane
splitting was a grey area." (Well that clears it up!)

" "The legislation doesn't stop motorcyclists from doing it, so therefore
it's legal to do it," Snr Const Douglas said."

Basically you can lane split, but you will get pinged if the traffic isn't
stationary, it is 'unsafe', if you straddle lanes, don't indicate while
changing lanes, or use the lane shoulder. Whether or not your average HWP
grunt will understand the subtleties is a different matter.

"Queensland Transport is consulting motorcycle groups about changes to
Queensland laws, after initially stating that lane splitting was being
reviewed." (Translation: they are about to specifically outlaw it.)
