You'd need a new cam, and you'd need to figure the fuel & sparks. But at
least the crank's doing what you want it to...

(Or you could just remove one plug lead)

Fuel wouldn't be an issue - the cam just opens the valve and the fuel
    is there.
And the plug. Why not go ght whole hog and chop the cylinder off too?

    You're assuming a carb'd boxer.
    Why not indeed?

Aye, I extrapolated that from 'airhead'.

But I know nothing of them, so flip wibble.

I've always liked single-banger motors. Like the BSA Victor 441.

Would it be possible to modify a boxer motor like the BMW airhead
such that the 2 cylinders' power strokes were simultaneous
    instead of alternating?

In effect it would be equivalent to a thumper
but better balanced for less vibes.

I was going with the generality rather than the specific example.

    The Velocette Viceroy did that.
Basically an LE engine modified to make a 2 stroke scooter engine.
Only 798 were ever built so they are now rather rare.
Another 47 engines were sold to DMW to fit in the even rarer Deemster
and around 250 were built for use in a schools hovercraft project.

BMW did it themselves, with the R25/26 series. Basically a boxer
engine with one pot lopped off, and turned through 90 degrees so the
    remaining pot stood vertical.

Well _I_ knew that (although not the model number) - I was assuming
the other posters would too, so it was supposed to be a little
    tongue-in-cheek.

Isn't it brilliant? I'd have added some sort of bach plate to protect
    the lower pots, mind.
