I'm giving the K a service tomorrow and part of the plan is to grease
the rear splines but which grease do I use?

I'll be taking a trip to Halfords for engine oil etc so if I can get
the grease from there then I'll be a happy person.

I think Timo is yer man on this. It's some sort of moly-based grease iirc. I
use similar on the Guzzis's drive splines.

I imagine the same stuff as for R series. According to Neil aka Steptoe on
    ukgser you use molydebenum disulphate

I don't think you can - the one you're supposed to use is a special BMW
grease. I'd have to dig around the garage to find out what it's called.

    Cheers.

I might have a tin of molybdenum disulphate in the garage so that'll
be the first place to look but if (as suggested in the thread) it can
be sourced from a car spares outlet then I'll be able to sort
    something out either way.

I've got some of that; but stick to using it on the clutch splines.

Invariably I use moly on the drive shaft.

IIRC yer average bog standard lithium grease will do - it's not like a
gearbox output shaft where you need high-concentration moly paste.

Any decent Moly based gloop will do.

That's the one. I've seen badly worn drive and rear wheel splines and BMW
blame the incorrect lube. Still, lots of a decent moly lube will better
than nothing and the failed units usually looked pretty dry.

I just use CV grease on the Guzzi's drive shaft splines and clutch centre.

Thanks to all for the answers, it appears that in a previous life I
must have been involved in mechanical engineering because I've got a
tin of moly disulphide paste and I've even got a spray on version of
    the same stuff.

It's time to beat the KTM into life then go and fetch the necessary
lubricants. I hope this isn't going to be a day for Dodger type
    posts...

Heh. I was slightly amazed that your van didn't contain a selection

  16. Which the cunts down at North Oxford BMW know nothing at all about.

I even sent the guy a fucking picture of the tube in its BMW Accessory
    blister packaging.

He still told me it was discontinued and nothing had replaced it.

tis all done, they've retired to the pub leaving the drive a mess.

the same cannot be said for the refitting of the turbo plastic. I've
scratched the mudguard and cracked the fairing. on top of this Andy
has snapped a bolt so its all gone back into the garage and I'm
    sulking.

It's more that I don't do fitting work these days so I don't need it
    in my van.

I've got a tin of something similar that I forgot to give back at a
nuclear power station but it's with a load of my kit in our workshops.
