I am planning summer hols, so feedback on both topics would be appreciated.

I think the Pyrenees trip's been postponed because everyone's fucking useless. I will, however, be doing the following by bike or car: IHRO races at Chimay (July) and Gedinne (August) MotoGP at Brno (August) and Misano (September)
I'm heading for Lake Annecy for 3rd Sept. Departing UK on 1st Sept and maybe rendezvousing chez Ace on the way, if they are home that weekend. Then riding across Massif Central via Ardeche Gorge & Millau to stay at Jen's on 6th & 7th Sept. Return home via a weekend in Normandie with a group from another place. Cab may be jumping in at some point. Others welcome to join along the way.
I've ridden past the lake before but never stopped overnight I've booked a room here, right by the castle http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/du-chateau-annecy.html?aid=304142;label=post Any dining recommendations nearby?
Sorry Domenec, should have been in touch. Ferry with bike to Bilbao, arrive 20th August, along the north edge of the Pyrenees, a few days with my cousin in the Cevennes then loop north a bit, two nights with Jen 30/8-1/9 then ferry from Bilbao 3rd Sept.. So unfortunately we won't be coming your way after all. We still want to see Barcelona, but decided against it this time. We're staying four nights (22-26 August) in Bagnères-de-Luchon. That's mid-week, but if you have holidays to spare it would be really nice to meet up.
Aye, it's pretty cold up here. Only reached 27C today, and tis morning going to work in the open-top TT with shorts on was almost slightly cool. Getting in the pool tonight was tough, water at 31C. Having to leave the cover off tonight to let it cool down a bit.
I'd recommend the kyriad in the centre, as it goes. Built into the old town wall and withint spitting distance of about 50 restaurants, They're all pretty good, if slightly touristy. Get one with a terrace on the river for the full experience.
I looked there as you have recommended it a few times. Either it was fully booked or not taking a booking for 1 night on a weekend. Can't remember. The one by the castle gets good reviews and I'm happy with fairly simple accommodation. Hopefully Cab will be able to make it otherwise it seems I will be billy no mates that night. I've provisionally pencilled in a night at your place on the 1st Friday in September, as per previous emails. No worries if you make other plans for that weekend. I'll spend a night in Colmar which seemed a nice place when I stopped there for lunch last summer.
Sure. Should be there. Do some wine tastings if you do - Wolfberger, the major producer[1] in the area, is well worth a visit. I know you're not a white wine freak, but there's a lot worth getting to know, and they have some reds as well. http://www.wolfberger.com/accueil.cfm?page=50. Free to enter, try as many wines as you like. About five minutes walk, maybe ten[2], from the centre of town. [1] And bottler/handler for most of the smaller ones. [2] Wrong. Google maps suggest about half an hour http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Colmar,+France&daddr=48.093432,7.347889
I've walked past it a few times. It will be fine I'm sure. I generally end up in the Ibis as I turn up on the day. Yeah they are all pretty nice there, the usual French cafe dining experience. There is a FOAD size Whurlitzer in the park nearby which I'm sure you will want to ride.
I didn't know Cheltenham was famous for Guiness but I'll look it up. FWIW I haven't touched a pint of the Irish Goodness in Yorkshire. Ever. There being proper ale to drink. It's useful in Scotland and NI where the beer is drawn straight out of settling tanks in the sewage processing system.
