Are some of you lot still heading for the Pyrenees next year? If so, avoid the famous cols during the peak holiday weeks (around now). The hills will be alive with mini pelerons of cyclists being overtaken very slowly by camper vans. Tourmalet etc. would need to be attacked Pahnd Island fashion in the early morning or when every one is scoffing their evening meal. Some of the lesser known routes in the less famous areas are well worth doing though and surprisingly free of traffic even now. Not so spectacular, but serious twisties to be enjoyed in the Arriege. Not seen any truly gung ho riding yet, but one or two local motards on supermotos pressing on well.
