Hi - I'll be leading a group of riders, (some not overly experienced) on a
trip from Sydney to Coonabarabran in September. For the first leg I was
planning on taking the Putty Rd up to Bulga, leaving Windsor about 9AM.

I've heard that the truck-traffic on the Putty Rd can be heavy on a
week-day: does anyone have any first hand experience of this? I'll be
leading some female L-platers and I don't want to scare them senseless.

    Cheers and thanks, Manning

Pants _on_ then. Get Tárá to lead, the tail rider gets to
    enjoy the scenery.

  3. Best way to Coonabarrabran from Sydney is via Lithgow, Mudgee, Gulgong,
Dunedoo and Mendooran. Good roads, little traffic, plenty spots to stop,
rest and take in the atmosphere. Virtually no trucks. Done it lots of
times as my in-laws are up that way. PULP at Mudgee too.

I've been up the Putty on a weekday and wouldn't say there was a spectacular
    amount of truck traffic.

Good advice - that's actually the route we have planned for the return trip.
Cool - thanks for that :)

    Cheers

It may be worth checking that the Putty is open when you intend to pass
through. On the last ride I did out that way with Cam, admittedly some
months ago, we had to turn back as it was only open for a few hours each
day. At least in your case you could just keep going to Kurrajong and go
    via Lithgow. Great road.

This may no longer be an issue, but after having the same thing happen to us
on Friday with the road between Stanwell and Bulli closed, a phonecall is
    much easier! :)

Try calling the BP at Kurmond for example on 4573 1324 - I'm sure they'll
give you the good oil (so to speak!).

Cheers and have fun. A weekend in that part of the world with a bunch of
female L-platers??? Lordy - Lisa would kill me! hehe

Ilford to Mudgee is a very nice bit of road.

Just watch out for the potholes though. I've got two dented rims (front n rear) on my ZX6R from the Putty
road. Thanks ..... I just LOVE paying my taxes for such great roads!

You want a chookie, you do! Shit roads are great, they let you
    reel in the sportsbikes!

That would be an interesting comparison: A chook-chaser against a
    litre-class sportsbike (Gixer, R1?) and a mega-sports tourer ('Busa?), in a
race from Sydney to Coonabarabran and back via the most direct routes
(sealed - let's be fair) . Hell, throw in a cruiser and a Goldwing while
we're at it. First one there and back to Sydney wins.

And can I join SPACC? I've got the right bike and the relevant lack of
    mental health.
