Beav emerged from their own little world to say
They looked something up in a book. Nothing fell off as I made my way to
Newhaven for a TOG Tour and I didn't have a problem getting the wheel out
when I went to a different tyre fitter later in the year.

Er, actually centrifugal force throws all gunks outwards, to the inside
crown(ish) of the tyre. So nothing to clean off IYSWIM

But when the wheel isn't turning gravitational forces must make the
    gunk higher up fall downwards.

A, IME, a very small ammount, which is reflung :)
Generally most remains clinging to the tyre.

Having just had a look at my front tyre I don't think it'll survive
another rear tyre without being dangerously fucked by the time the
rear has worn out so I'll be firing up ebay and buying a new pair of
sticky tyres. Probably Rennsports because they always seemed ok when I
    used them on my 9R.

2 Wheels charged me a tenner, and within a couple of hours the tyre was
    flat again.

MattG emerged from their own little world to say
I had one year where I seemed to have magnetic tyres. They repaired 3
puntures[1] with mushroom type patches. It was on my VFR750 so they were ZR
tyres. All done by the same chap - a short arse ginger bloke. £5 cash each
time. That was 9 years ago mind.

It's a shame that place closed as they carried a good stock of tyres and
did a decent job. Although it would be a bit of a trek now that I don't
work in the Forest of Dean.

[1] 2 in the same rear Dunlop which went on to do a 2500 mile trip to the
    Alps.

Ultraseal is fitted by the place that does my tyres (if you pay for it).
I doubt they'd fit it if it made a mess of the rims.

It's different from the old foams that set solid (normally into a lump
at the bottom of the tyre IME).

all variations of a theme. The latest formulations are actually made to be
removed with water! Too many complaints from tyre companies.

I have used puntureproofit and ultraseal and had no problems when changing
    tyres.

    YMMV

I find it's best if you put the stuff inside the tyre rather than
    outside. YMMV.

  13. In uk.rec.motorcycles, BGN amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
    You pair of dickheads.

*obviously* you put the stuff on the inside <ffs>, but the gloop, or
whatever it's called, has to come out of (or leak out of) the hole a
biyt for it to plug the hole.

What happens when you ride in the wet with said gloop in the hole?

You just don't understand how this works do you? It doesn't matter about
water, cos once you've forked out for the gloop, you never ever, ever get a
    puncture.
