Pulled over by the rozzer's... was doing 85mph...

So I left Avebury, went along the A4 back to Reading... After leaving
Marlborough I executed an overtake, just crossing the double white
lines after a junction (savernake forest?) and took the speed up
towards Fyfield... I brought the speed down to the indicated limit
upon entering Fyfield and the unmarked car behind me put on the disco
lights... I eased off some more and held my hand up, started looking
for a suitable pull in place and parked up in Fyfield. Put bike on
    stand, got off and de-helmetted.
"Good evening Sir, would you like to step into my vehicle?" Got in
having de-jacketted and put my glasses on, shdes aren't so cool in a
cop car... On makinig my overtake I crossed a double white line, by a
bit, did I have any excuse or mitigating reasons for doing this? Well,
no, obviously... OK, well you will receive 3 points and a £60ukp
fine... I admit my fault, guilty as charged... Are you an advanced
motorcyclist? Do you know this road well? Yes and yes... Well, BTW,
your road positioning was really good, nice and smooth through the
gears, showed good observation and I have no problem with your speed
(because of these factors)... You will have to produce... etc. etc.
All thing's considered, I prolly got off lightly. The officer
concerned was very polite and positive about my riding. He just didn't
like me crossing the white lines and I would have prolly got away free
were it nit for the white line thing. They are there for a reason, so
no bad feeling towards the rozzers, just feel like a twat fot making
such a stupid and needless error of judgement...
Nice to have your riding style endorsed though...
    Mostly I am :)

You didn't find us then. Statto said to look out for a "tall lanky
bloke", but the only one of those I saw was a ginger.
    Oh ****.
    Sounds like it.
More & more often these days that reason seems to be that there might
not be enough room for a milk float to overtake a convoy of 20 trucks.

Hmm, which bit of 'unmarked' did you fail to understand?
So, what's your preference, oh godly biker boy?

I think they do have their place, for example where there's a dip in
the road that you can't really see, or a hidden turning. The trouble is
they're slapped down all over the place these days for no reason
whatsoever, & have become meaningless as a result. Excessive use has
completely negated the point of them imo.

Oh yes - though on a sunny Wednesday evening in Summer, I would expect
(and usually see) the police presence to be high.

As you say though it's tough to stay at a legal speed on that stretch -
but luckily in the evenings it's usually pretty empty - still have to
    watch the laybys etc though.

The bit of France we were in on the French trip was a lot worse than
most of the bits of the UK i've seen though.

I can't comment on that road, but the bit of the A35 that I ride along
seems to have quite well thought out white lines, I can see why each
one is there. There are normally plenty of other opportunities to
overtake, although sometimes I do just clip a solid line by a few feet
when pulling back in, was this what happened ?

SOme of us don't have quite your discernment for ignoring rules and
still feel they are there for a reason.

    This feeling is diminishing though.

Aye, they're much less likely to use the solid/dotted ones common in
the UK, so they're often only really appropriate to one direction of
traffic. And the filthy flics have been known to take up station where
they know it's actually safe to overtake but there's a white line,
hence guaranteeing lots of easy nicks.

And then take 20 minutes to write the ticket, the cunts. Mind you,
that may have been aggravated by my "Do I look like I fucking care?"
attitude. It was almost worth the sixty Euros or so to see how
frustrated they were that I didn't give a shit.

Perhaps you should have said that you were wearing thick

Works for the police who shot someone during a recent raid.

Interesting. I do that all the time. Often by far more than a few feet.

    Is it allowed?

Not that I give a ****, you understand.
