To be fair, there's not that many pubs left round this part of the
    world.

There's also a certain type of soccer fan who seem to get irate at the

Don't think it's Safeways, and Tesco don't do good fresh stuff, IMHO.

Safeway do make an awesome Pork and Apple sausage, though. Shame that
kind of stuff is going to be deleted from the range by the pikey new
    owners :-(

Surely they must be in the minority. From my perspective, and I can only
speak from mine, the reactionary, anti-crowd is far more vociferous,
shoehorning their disdain into the conversation at every opportunity. Having
said that, I don't generally encounter idiots that often in day-to-day
interactions so maybe I'm just lucky.

  12. As others have said, it can be difficult to avoid them when there is a major
competition on unless you want to avoid going to the pub at all. If they
choose to comment on me not being bothered about football, I'll reply,
otherwise I'll try to ignore them.

Note, by 'average football yob' I don't mean average football fan - on the
whole they don't give a toss what I think as long as I don't interrupt them
watching/talking about football, which is fine by me.

The ones I really don't like are those who seem to think I should 'join in'
and support the national team. It does seem to be the 'temporary fans for
the big occasion' that are like this though. Why? They have no idea how the
national team did in, say, the world cycling championships so it can't
really be a national pride thing.

Strangely, these seem to be the same sort of people who seem disturbed that
    you don't join in when there's a royal wedding/funeral/whatever.

Well I don't really encounter these people. I avoid pubs showing football,
and when I watch it I watch it at home. Basically if there's an environment
    that I don't like, I don't go in.
This also goes for raucous business men on power trips, noisy hen nights,
annoying clubbers and groups of gay men who enjoy making straight men feel
uncomfortable by acting overtly camp. They're all mechanisms for creating
obstacles between people instead of just being who they are.

Maybe I see things too simply and I hate everyone.

I find this whole Safeway/Morrison thing rather irritating really. My
nearest supermarket is a Safeway, it's had a nice enough range and I've
been happy using it for a few years. However every time I've shopped
there recently I've been favourably impressed by the bill but then less
than impressed by the produce (I don't scrimp on food); the fruit in
    particular.

Can't they keep the nasty cheap Morrison (Morrisson?) brand for nasty
    cheap places?

    Is there still an Oddbins?
When we lived in Wokingham, we'd get the basics from Tesco and Safeway, and
get the important stuff from Waitrose. Booze mostly from Oddbins or
Bordeaux Direct, while they still had a shop there.

If you're not interested in soccer, big competitions can be rather
annoying as it seems everything gets disrupted for the sake of the damn
    game.

Like last night: I noticed that "Doomwatch" was on BBC1, and thought I'd
stay up and watch it. But it got cancelled so that the BBC could show a
recording of a soccer match that didn't even include England AND WAS
BEING SHOWN AT THE SAME TIME ON ITV!

Euro 2004 is always cropping up in conversation. Half of the checkout
staff I've dealt with for the past fortnight have asked me if I'll be
watching some dumb match on the telly.

Little things like that get rather annoying.

I regularly go to West Ham with 30,000 others, and I've never felt
that this is true. In summer, the game is sometimes just a mild
irritant interrupting watching the cricket in the pub.
