Honey took the Riding course this past weekend. There were 5 women and 6
    men.
I am much more impressed with those Motorcycle Training weekend deals,
now than I use to be.
I had instructed her some, when she borrowed the 250 Rebel. But she did
learn a lot more, being with others and being taught by trained
    instructors.

I feel good that she got her money's worth,($165) because let me tell
ya, they did some riding. They rode atleast 4 hours the first day, and
that many the second and last day. She learned how to do an
abrupt stop, at 25mph, using both brakes, over and over again, (she
    implied.
The U Turns, backing and parking.

They all were awarded a diploma, and a Riders Permit. In Texas, she will
only have to take the written exam, to get her official Riders License.
Like I said, I am a lot more impressed, than before. It was a
legitimate, and well organized two day class. Those two instructors were
    very professional.

Oh yeah, one woman did quit. The first maneuver with a motorcycle was to
push it from the trailers, over to another parking lot, where the riding
range was. Honey said it was a physical effort to push the bikes up a
grade over there. This one student dropped hers, and later after trying
to use the clutch in the friction zone, dropped it again. She didn't
    return after lunch! She quit.

Next thing, she will borrow a friends 600 Shadow, to learn to ride a
heavier bike. The 600 is what she eventually wants as her own
    motorcycle, by golly. (grin)

    This all sounds eerily familiar.

I know you're in Texas, or at least that's what I gathered.
If you are in the Dallas/Ft Worth area Full Boar often has VLX 600
Shadows for sale and they back on to a Target store with a huge
parking lot to practise on before taking the bike away.
Just don't let her drop it on her ankle like someone else I know. :)

One of the first things we stress to students is the physical nature of
the course. I've taught an 80 year-old man who could muscle his bike
around effortlessly for hours like an Olympian. By the same token, I've
taught a 40 year-old woman who was is such bad shape that she had to
quit less than 30 minutes into the first range day (during the
    now-defunct "buddy push" exercise).

I hate to see students quit because they are too weak. It is one of the
most helpless feelings an instructor experiences, because there's
usually nothing that can be done to help a student overcome such a
    dynamic.

At any rate, give your SO a big Reeky "Hell Yeah" from all of us, and
    enjoy riding together.

‘‘Tim Kreitz, I apprciate your input here. The instructor told
them, the reason for pushing a dead Bike, so to speak, was to learn not
to ever ''run out a gas', cause you'd be pushing your motorcycle, and it
ain't fun!(chuckle)! I will give her a 'Hell Yeah' reeky input. Thanks,
    Bjay!

‘‘Bob Mann, yeah those VLX 600's are hard to find. They're
such good all round riding motorcycles. I had one 1 year and half ago,
and sold it to one of our daughters. Lisa. Now, since Honey wants to
learn we wished we had it back. Our other daughter, KK, has a VLX 600
also. Her gal friend, looked for one, a good while, and finally bought
one from around the Chicago area, thru eBay. Can you believe someone
bought a motorcycle on eBay". It tuned out quite well. They drove their
pickup up there,1000 miles from here, and bought it, and hauled it home.
The fellow, was nice enuff to let them inspect it, before writing the
    check.

    Congratulations to your wife, Bjay.
May the roads rise up to meet her and the winds be always at her back.

‘‘Sunny Gal, thank you. But I do have mixed emotions. I would
be lying if I didn’t say I will worry some. She is an intelligent,
    and very practical woman.
But, that ole' feeling of protectiveness of mine will always be there.
Will keep you up to date, if you wish. (bjay)

That's one reason why Joe bought his bike, so he could "keep an eye on me".
I knew this when I bought my bike and I also knew, that it would give the
two of us something to do together, besides work.
Bjay, your worry shows that you two have a good relationship and that you
care enough about her, to be concerned. But you also need to have
confidence in her abilities, to bolster her own confidence.
    Please do.

Joe and I can relate. After over 31 years together, we've grown accustomed
    to each other. ;)
I don't want her hitting, or getting hit by any deer either! And please
remind her that people in cages don't see us, so watch other for them too.
But then you know that already, I'm sure.

Well, I have to go finish winterizing the pump house, while Joe is out there
cutting and welding pipe for the shop frame.
    Have a good day, Bjay.

Like I said, check out Full Boar, last I looked they had one in stock.
They bring in a lot of them too since they are popular.
Much closer to pick up too.
They are in Hurst between Dallas and Ft Worth.
