Dennis from D+G motorcycles has now fitted a 5.7 litre V8 Yank lump into
his trike, named Goliath. It looks quite impressive.

  4. Another one I saw had only the clutch between engine and axle. NO means
    of putting it into neutral...

I saw what I think was a elderly FZR which had been slightly modified
by some mad Scot - he'd fitted an RS1600 engine in line, inside the
frame. There was only one major frame mod, just under the tank, a
bulge to accommodate the twinchoke downdraught carb.

That had no gearbox, just a hydraulic clutch and a fuckoffandie
enormous rear sprocket. He reckoned it was a right hoot to pull away
from the lights and just wind it on - all the way to 160+ without
    changing gear ;-)
It prolly is now, as the fake, empty right-hand can was going to take
    a nitrous bottle ...

There is if you rip out the back seats, cut all the boot bulkhead and
panels away and then weld in enough strength to be able to stick another
front subframe complete with engine/box in there.

I've seen the photos of the original, and also seen first hand a replica
that some nutter built around 1990. The replica was much better built
    than John Cooper's version.

    Q. How do you get two engines in a mini?
    A. One in the front, one in the back.

Or just put two in the back:

Disk brakes are available for Beetles, anything from a cheapo arrangement to
high-tech race specs, (although a lot of people fit all sorts of set-ups,
inc. Porsche). And they did come in a semi-auto version. And they don't need
    any water.

I just wonder if anyone ever tried running a Beetle engine backwards? Then
you could have a nice air-cooled, mid-engined setup.

Didn't some bloke from Desperate Dan's run a V10(12?) Mercedes trike a few
    years ago?

  12. Backwards? You don't have to. Just turn the transaxle arse about tit and
rotate the engine relative to it. Cooling might be a fucker, though.

As for the 'nice' part of that setup - not with a VW lump.

An Alfa twincam of some sort. All polished up.

  14. You bugger.

Wandering back from a nice Chinese meal last night, and a
very nice bottle of red, we saw a CG125.[1] And I thought,
blimey the engine block is *tiny*. And I thought, it would
be easy to bolt two CGs together, shift the seat and tank
to the middle, and just use one front end. And, voila,
    the Holiest of Holy Trikes.

We could even get AndrewR to bless it.

Do it like the tractor boys and get either 4 decent sized V8s or a couple of
engines from an old Wessex helicopter.
