Quick question. Do you think $16500.00 is reasonable for a Black 2001
FJR1300 with 15000k on the clock? Comes with wool seat covers, heated hand
grips, bagster tank bag & cover. Has some small scratches on panniers.

    Just for my own info.

    Cheers.

I'de be taking 4 - 5k off the new price (atleast) then see if that's about
    what this figure comes to.

Actually Black is a VERY limited colour in australia, it was originally designed to
be a Europe colour only but a few got diverted here in 2001 and proved to be very
popular. Now the price is a wee bit over the going rate for the bike but due to the
rarity of the colour..... well it's up to you of course but I'd be tempted.

  6. On 10/11/03 10:35 PM, in article
How many headjobs? Full service history, tyres are, and in what condition,
    chain is good fair etc?

    I'd start at 14k

Full service history, tyres have about 3k left on them, don't know about the
chain as its a shaft drive :)

Done some checking and there are only about 10 Black FJR in the country, and
I prefer the Black. The price in the red book is way off track. Sounds good
but the book is more designed for the trade where as they want to pay the
    least for trade-ins.

Bike point has a couple around the 16k - 18k bracket.
Motorcycle trader has the same. But none are advertising Black.

Not sure where you got the figure of 10 Black ones, if so half of them are in Qld and
the rest in NSW then, I must admit I thought is was more than double that.

Exactly, so just cause its black, dont think the insurance co will
    give you more..

They will go by Redbook, and you will lose.

Agreed Value is not always just that.

You may have come to a figure with the insurance company at the start of the policy, but if the bike
has been poorly maintained and looked after and the overall condition has significantly gone
downhill, then come the day when you claim following an incident, the insurance company may well
offer the relevant market value. Many companies treat the agreed value as an upper limit to what can
be paid out, not a definite payout figure.

You're agreeing to a top dollar sum. Not a payout sum.

My Swann insurance policy defines exactly what the "Agreed Value" means and
is, and there is no mention in the policy of any variance of that figure in
the event of a claim based on the condition of the bike.

In the case of the black FJR. If he pays $16500 for the bike (and has receipt
to show this) and insures the bike for an agreed value of $16500 in the event
of a claim, regardless of what redbook says the value of the bike is, they
will pay him the $16500 as stated on the policy.

Glass's is another very common reference used by Insurance companies.

Provided the bike has been well looked after prior to a claimed incident, the generally yes agreed
    value would be paid.

Always pays to ask the claims department before taking out a policy (not the people selling the
policy. Generally they wouldn't know) how they would treat a claim against the agreed value if the
bike was in a poor condition. Granted, most people look after their bikes and so this issue wouldn't
neccesarily arise. But it pays to know the insurance company's stance. Many people have been stung
by this side of supposed agreed value policies in the past.

Don't be naive to think that just because your policy says agreed value, then that's what it means
regardless. It's rarely the policy holder that has the final say.

My policy says that the agreed value at the start of the period is $xxx, but
that the value will diminish over the twelve months, since the bike is
eleven months older after 11 months of cover, and therefore not worth what
it was at the start of the period. It also contains a tyre-wear clause.

That's a bit harsh. If they're going to take the age of the bike into account
right down to the month, and the depth of the tread on the tyres, they should
also take into account seasonal variations in supply and demand.

They do :) on the car one.

They also haven't upped my premiums despite general industry increases and
paying two bike claims in a year.

They're getting a bit antsy about speeding fines though, and I had to talk
very nicely to them to stop them imposing higher excesses for the bike. If
    I'm driving my wife's car there's a $1k excess (which suits me, I almost
never drive it), but not on my car or bike.

I've given up trying to find the logic in all that - ignorance is bliss, and
I'm as happy as a happy person.
