My neighbour wants to sell his old bike and asked me a fair price. I have no
    idea - any advice please?

Honda 750 F1. 1976, under 20k miles and new clutch. Needs new bushes on
swinging arm for MOT. Rest of it all looks good and I know he will have
'REALLY' looked after it over its life.

He said he wants a quick sale.

Thanks for any adivce I can give him.

Tell him to get an offer from TOG then double it.

£500 is fair and I will collect. What part of the country?

Probably better to post this in uk.rec.motorcycles.classic, to be
    honest.
Hmmm. Looks good != looks original. You'll get more for it if it's
100% original, less if it isn't.
    (a) Wrong time of the year
    (b) If it only needs the swing arm bushes done then get him to have it
repaired and MOT'd, otherwise he'll only get a pittance for it.
Take a photo or three, stick 'em up in some web space and post the
    URL...

If he's not too far from London I might well be interested.

You know that given the circumstances described above you're
probably not far off the "current" price and you wouldn't be getting a
very good deal if you had to collect it from, say, Kings Lynn 'cos F1s
aren't exactly worth a lot of money? Hint: They're the least desirable
    CB750F model...

From other posts I've read recenty, should this be taken as a coded
    warning not to buy it?

  7. The BONY number should be a hint that he's a LONG way from London. Try
    Harrogate, North Yorks.

Oh, and Hi Rob, how you doing?

Didn't you get the email to all the native Brits warning them about this
one. You do know it's someone shifting a bit of junk to Timo, don't
    you?

No game in this case, just trying to stand in for TOG...

Top of the CB750 Four tree are the four-pipers (K models) for the
    obvious classic looks etc.

The F2 has Comstars (not that great) but AFAIR more power and triple
    disk brakes.

The F1 has (again, from memory as I sold all my CB750 reference books)
the low(est) power engine, and only a single disk at the front.

People tend to pay good money for the Ks, especially if they have the
original exhaust system fitted. Fs are not that sought after,
partially because of the more modern looks
"Here's a heap. I swear it was a good bike when I left the seller's
    house."

I have fucked up. Thought that was a pre comstar bike. IIRC now is this the
one that was often seen in yellow? I withdraw from the race. I will
however (tomorrow) collect a rather nice galvanised multi bike trailer of
only 6 months vintage. I think this is a safer way to go for the 2004 track
    season....
Just need to commission Pip to knock me up a box trailer conversion for the
    weeds and occasional Quad.

It *is* the pre-Comstar bike. The comstar one is the _F2_.

In fact Pip and Loz could be the exception that prove a LOT of rules!

    <Quietly disguised by a cough>....yes I see your point.
