Pre-mix

  1. When was the last time you filled up a two-stroke that runs on pre-mix?

    Me, ten minutes ago, when I refuelled The Mighty TS150. Took me right
    back, that did.

    A while back I bought a big can of synthetic two-stroke (for injector
    and pre-mix) off Timo. It was originally intended for the GT380, but I
    never kept that long enough to use the stuff. I don't think the MZ has
    ever experienced anything so luxurious in its life.

    Quoth The Doctor:

    "Why did you buy that thing? It's horrible."

    Me (defensive): "Well, the downpipe's rusty but the rest of it's OK. and
    it goes very well. Even the brakes are pretty good."

    "Yes, but it's still horrible...."

    "I like it. And it was very cheap."

    "How cheap is very cheap?"

    "160 quid."

    <fx: eyes widen in surprise> "Oh, all right then."

    I think that's the sort of exchange that has justified MZ purchases
    since the 1960s.

    Me. The last time I owned a pre-mix MZ. In the old days. This is
    not something you should be excited about, you know ;).

  4. It really ain't that bad. It's in good nick, and while the engine is a
    bit primitive and the brakes just as basic (better than my old CD175,
    though) it is fun in a "counter-culture don't give a stuff" sort of way.

    And the thing about MZs is that they always handled really, really well
    - even Sniper, who rode it this afternoon, commented on that.

    I want one of those plunger-squirty-goop-dispenser-thingies they used to
    have at garages. You know - looked like a fire extinguisher, but was
    full of 2-stroke. I never forgot the oil when there was one of those on
    the forecourt - much better than cans of the stuff.

  9. About once a week for my 1964 Raleigh Runabout.
    About once a month (average) on the Chainsaw and Strimmer.
    A couple of times a year for the outboard engines, (Yamaha and Seagull.)

    Can't think of anything else at the moment.

    BTW anyone know a good cheap source of Castrol 'R' Two Stroke oil, I just
    love the smell?

  10. Ah!! Bisto!!!

    Do they do a two stroke R? The normal stuff doesn't mix very well with
    petrol (BT,DT) though I am told that a dash of acetone helps.

    pump - more for the outboard motor market than us bikey chaps. I used
    it once or twice, but they were a bit dear - about 78p a gallon compared
    to 70p everywhere else. They also sold 5* still in 1980 (it had
    disappeared elsewhere about 5 years earlier) as I used to put it in my
    Triumph Spitfire to stop the bugger pinking.
