I'm fitting a Micron race can to my 05 Blade. This means the exup valve
thingy has to be removed as its part of the original end can. All sorts of
claims are made by Dynojet and maps are available for just about every
combination of end can/system/air filter. So are they worthwhile or not,
would Mr Average rider notice the difference?

  2. I certainly noticed the difference in power delivery and throttle response
on my ten and I'm definitely Mr Average rider :).

Are you sure you are fitting just a can? 'Cos ExUp and similar valves are
normally much further down the pipework/closer to the headers..... Like at
the 4-1 which is, AFAIK, under the sump, not in the end can....

Thats was the set up on my RRY Blade, exup benath the sump and maintained
when the end can was changed. The 04/05 model has it 12" before the
underseat can and on the same lenght of pipe belonging to the can.

This http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk/Fireblade.htm is the only company I can
find that make a can which maintains the exup. Because I live in NI it isn't
really suitable + I got a Micron on ebay for £90 )

As a Mrs. Average rider I would have to say yes, most definitely.
The main difference would be smoothness and a cleaner power delivery. The
top end would also be improved.

  6. they are generally removed when changing the can on the new blades (04/05) ,
guy at the Honda dealership told me that the exup valves being disconnected
has no effect on the performance of the bike

Ah right, so they fitted it for nothing, then?

It'll must be used as ballast then, I believe Honda call it mass
    centralisation!

I know two people who have replaced Blade end cans. One went the whole hog
with a full yoshi system, k& n filter and a power commander. The other just
a yoshi race can. Both say they haven't noticed the lack of an exup valve.
    (Unsurprising in the first case)

I'd like to keep it as a lot of road riding is at lower revs, but as I said
somewhere above I've a Micron race can arriving shortly via ebay. It was
cheap so I've been toying with the idea of treating the bike a power
    commander too.
This I'd not heard, interesting. Perhaps where Honda have placed it is more
for noise control reasons than performance.

    Bear says...
On the Gixer thou you can junk the link pipe/exhaust valve and leave
the original downpipes in place. You can then fit a different link pipe
that has no valve fittings and a slip-on type end, that makes finding a
replacement can easier as the Suzuki fitting is a 4 bolt affair. I'm
not sure I'd want to take the valve out of mine tbh.

The end can has about 15 inches of pipe attached. The valve is mounted in
that lenght of pipe so after removing the operating cables it comes away
with the can. It seems to be a simple butterfly type valve and nowhere near
as complicated as the HTEC fitted to my RRY Blade where the down pipes
merged. A description of its operation with pics and diagrams is available
here, scroll down for the details.

The more I think about it perhaps your onto something about the noise
control, it may be its main/only function. Your now departed sig may have
    had some truth about it!

  12. They are fitted to help the exhaust system comply with emissions control
and noise levels etc throughout Europe Australia and USA

  14. The removal of the valve has little if any effect on the power delivery at
low and mid range when you fit a race can
as I said earlier its more to do with emissions and noise control

  17. one yes he tried the old sales patter on me the others all gave sound advice
or refered me to Honda Technical
All the advice was very similar , all said the valve was for emmisions
control and noise suppression (more noise than pollutant emmisions)

I thought all you sales type bods were honest and above board !!! .

you weren't telling porkies were you

We, sort of, discovered this with the ukrm race bike. For the 24hr there
were stricter noise restrictions than normal so the idea was to fit a OE
GSXR road can in place of the ZX-7RR race can in order to comply.

It was nowhere near quiet enough. We concluded the Suzuki's exhaust
valve was a major factor in the noise reduction stakes.

The exhaust headers (third pic from bottom) are a work of art.
