I went north last time.[/QUOTE] It's pretty enough, what I did of it, (from San Luis Obispo back up to SF). I preferred the north coast, though. I think that's because it wasn't a lot different: my first experience of it was crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, which made more of an impression. It's likely to be warmer down around Big Sur, and there's certainly some great views and fun roads. It includes one of the most picturesque scenes I've ever seen, in Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park.
