I expect that's because one just can't fit Burke's Peerage on a plate,

That's pretty crass. I saw:

M3 OH YA

on a beemer parked on my street in London, which got me wondering
whether the owner was really that much of a cock, or if it was some kind
of private joke (although a private joke on a reg plate is surely a bit
pointless)

 

No worse than having a totally random set of numbers and letters; BU54
GYP for example

 

The day I collected my new Firestorm[1] there was a guy collecting his
R1 complete with R1 OK YA reg plate.

[1] Mine had H 1000 V on it (H10 OOV spaced differently)

 

Shame we can't get 4 letters on the end, I can see you, or even better
Champ, with BU54 CAHN

 

My mate had R1 MAD on his R1, sold the bike and its now on a Yam FJ1300
for some reason. He'd sell it though.
