A piece of glossy A4 paper, like the brochures on the desk of just about
every servo makes a neat single use funnel. Just roll it into a cone
with a smallish hole in one end. Quite oil tight long enough to put
half a litre of oil into a bike.

Yep; I can vouch for this! (and also for the p.e.t. coke-bottle one)

  4. Booking ahead seems much more necessary around October because of the
buses bringing tourists for the Wildflowers in the West. One bus very
    nearly fills a roadhouse.
Also, about fuel and distance, really strong headwinds can surprise..
    Have fun,

  5. I use a bit of VB carton to funnel any spilt oil from filter changes away
from hard to wipe engine/electrical bits and into the drain pan.

Of course part of the maintenance routine is to make sure you have
sufficient (empty) VB cartons on hand....

  8. ....which is why every good shed should have a beer fridge! I also find
they make good impromptu drip trays, bolt holders (to keep what needs to
be kept in sequence), mats (to keep delicate engine parts off the dirt,
and piles off cold concrete), wedges (for holding shed door open or
stopping unsteady compressors vibrating around) and rubbish bins (for when
    the 5 gal buckets overflow).

  9. Depends on what type of tyre and how you ride, put a new set of
Bridgestone BT020's on the CBR after the trip over East 2 years ago, and
after riding to Canberra and back recently I have just got to the wear
bars on the back tyre :) The edges are fine, it's the flat spot in the
middle that is barely legal, the corners a few and far between once you
    turn left at Norseman.

Don't ride between Coolgardie and Port Augusta between dusk and dawn,
and be very careful if it is overcast, watch out for the emu's as well,
saw a few bunches of both on the recent ride. The lambswool seat cover
was good, so was the jell pad under it :) The mp3 player came in handy,
but was a little hard to hear over 120 or so :)

Cold concrete will give you piles, for sure.

  12. Good luck with that you lucky bastard.

I'd ride with one or 2 people only as you spend too much time buggerising
    around.

Have you bought a bike yet?

If not come here and say hi and we can certainly reccomend some good places
to go as well as people to check the bike over.

Biggest problem I had was boredom. Take a good MP3 Player.

Already picked one out, but thanks anyway. :)
I've ordered some decent in-ear-canal headphones for my mp3-cd player
and I have a "teach yourself spanish in your car" cd set ready to go.
    No, I'm not kidding. :)
