Possible carbeurator problem?

  1. Hi group,

    I've a 1977 CB750A that's in been running great (as well as
being in great condition for a nearly 30 year old bike) for nearly
    two years.

However, a couple of days ago, a problem cropped up.

When I start the bike and begin to move, she struggles for power
until I get the speed up to about 30 mph -- THEN she runs okay
(except for an occasionally feeling of deceleration).

The problem only happens when I'm use starting to move. I mean, I
really have to open the throttle to get going, then there's a SUDDEN
acceleration -- as if the bike is "catching up" with itself.

I tried everything I can think of to resolve the problem, but to no
avail. I suspect it may be a carbeurator issue.

    What do you guys/gals think?

  2. Clogged low speed jet ? (no specific knowledge of your carb)

Check for crud in the tank and float bowls. Start with clean
gas and some cleaner in the tank. With luck, you're just
working your way through a bad tank of gas and this'll cure
it without disassembling and cleaning. Think back to when and
where you last filled up and if this correlates with the onset
of your power problems, start buying gas elsewhere.
