I've a coworker looking for an 'authentic' leather jacket, traditional
style, for his vintage ride events. He doesn't care if it is a reproduction,
    but it got me thinking...

What was the brand(s) of leathers popular in the 1950's. I assume HD didn't
sell any under their name way back then. I know only of Lewis Leathers being
    still in business...

    J. Peterman is selling a reproduction of the style, but unfortunately he
doesn't list who made it originally:

Take a look at a website called Mad Max's Leathers.. They represent Vance
Leathers.. The last time I ordered anything from them, I was satisfied..
There is one jacket that is advertised, that might be what you are looking
    for..

Most of the short MS leather jackets, that I see.....are the ones with
all the zippers, double front flap, waist belt Shoot, the one I wear
now, is Buffalo Patched...and I really like it..reminds of of the
50's... the type I wore in 1952-54.....And in those days, if ya wore a
MS Jacket, they called us a Harley Thug..(smile) Now, it is really a pop
fashion, nowadays they call me Mr. Cool.
    (not Mr. Tibbs?) heehee....

Harley has sold leathers under their name almost as long as they have been
selling motorcycles, since 1910 or so, per this website:

Thanks for the input and history lessons.
Looks like Lewis Leathers will be the 1st choice.

We agree that they have (at least online) the best features and just look
really great. A shop in Wichita Falls sells 'em....
