Typically the European court rarely finds in Britain's favour
unless it suits 'em. Meanwhile we allow them to sell any old muck
    as "Cheddar cheese".

Of course, cheesemakers all over Europe are frantically overturning
Brie and Gorgonzola production lines make to "any old muck cheddar".

Vineyards all over France are being ploughed up, so they can make
    plonk.

    It's true, honest.

Heh. There was an interesting article about said outfit in the New
Statesman[1]. Short version is, they're against just about everything,
but can't agree on anything internally. From memory they hate (at the
very least) foreigners[2], gays, lesbians, and anybody else who
doesn't share their high opinion of themselves.

[1] Of course, this is the mouthpiece of the touchy-feely lefty
intellectuals so that'll discount it straight away. OTOH it's the only
UK paper I know of that was courageous enough to print an article (or
at least try to print it, can't remember if the author pulled it in
the end) that would've had them sued for libel by their owner.

[2] Probably they'll provide competition to them buying houses
    abroad.

  10. Ooh - I should apply to join and when they refuse my application I can

Err... actually he's right on that one deadmail. The German Army did
have operation Sealion planned and troops allocated. The plan called for
the Luftwaffe to keep the Royal Navy away from their invasion fleet but
first they had to stop the RAF from interfering. The early days of the
Battle of Britain saw Luftwaffe bomber attacks concentrated on airfields
and Radar stations and the turning point as far as the RAF was concerned
came when they switched their attacks to London. Later, when the RAF was
still operating as a fighting force, Sealion was cancelled. It was
bloody close, had the RAF been destroyed then the Germans would have
    invaded.

UKIP got 16% of the vote, /if/ it had been a 100% turn out this would
still 16%. If anything it is likely to be a fair bit less as those who
wanted to make a Euro related protest would have took the opportunity to
    do so.

Given a fair percentage of the 16% was a protest vote (at, predominately,
the expense of the Tories) come a General Election and UKIP don't offer a
full package, neither do they have the UK PLC management potential or
appeal they will whither and die. It'll simply be a case of "Up your
    hacienda", Jimmy.

The party I see making serious inroads into the current two party system
is likely to be the greens. Especially given its past tactics and
preparedness to work with the Socialist Alliance.

they were divvied up by us and the French after the First World War.

  19. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember saying
    something like:
Just had a thought re the microwaved petrol. A cup quarter full of water
and a layer of petrol on top - water heats the petrol which then
    vapourises nicely.
