What sort of proof is that?

    You call it global warming.
Any man of intelligence calls it weather.

The British slave trade ended in 1908 with the Abolition Of
Slavery Act. Very few slaves ever arrived in the UK. A slave was
valuable in the colonies whereas domestic labour was inexpensive
    here.

Any slaves brought to England were legally free. The church
brought great pressure to bear on the employers of enslaved
people and surviving documents dating from 1690 provide ample
evidence of slaves bringing actions to obtain discharge from
    enforced employment in this country.

    Well, fingers crossed, eh?

It kind of sums up part of the problem though. They often make pointless
law - laws for the sake of it, it seems. And even when they're not
pointless, as I suspect in this case, they don't apply them with much
    regard to common sense.

Sort of. As Germany slips further into recession a point of panic
will occur and traders will be dumping the Euro like it's poxed,
in favour of the Dollar which is a bargain at the mo. When it
shoots beyond a certain point they'll switch to the Pound.

Really? Thanks very much for the tip. I'd been told to shred them
but that's great. BTW Germany is probably my fave overseas
country, we often visit Bonn/Cologne. I'll be there in July and
will raise a weissbier to your health.

Anti-non-Tory? I don't understand. We were talking about voting
trends in a possible referendum on the constitution.

I know several Welsh people who didn't encounter a word of English until
they entered primary school. What of the many immigrants, with British
citizenship and the right to vote here, who were born in in other countries
with different languages, and in some cases, don't have very good English?

Then they'd be a little young to become an MP.
But we were discussing MPs. I don't know of any British MPs who
can't speak English, even the Welsh ones.

No it didn't. My paternal grandmother was sold into slavery in the UK

Please let's not get tied up in semantics. Anyone can say
anything they like in this country without fear of criminal
prosecution so long as it's not contravening a law.
I've covered this as best I can in another post. An action which
is perfectly legal here but against EU law can now lead to
extradition and trial overseas for that offence.
No need. Studied it at school and seen it in the flesh.
We have. It was signed by William Of Orange in 1698 and founded
    Britain's constitutional government.
