for the blacks or the irish.

You may have a point. I'm only claiming that Riccip is over 50.

I'd say he's 49. He posted a story the other day about him and his
mates getting mopeds aged 16 in 1971. That has him born in 1955.

    Still, close enough.

I agree that's it's inevitable, but I'm less optimistic that it will
be be good for the UK. I'm uncomfortable with the idea that, for
example, the interest rate I would pay on my mortgage may be
determined by the effect of a Polish miners strike on the GDP of
Poland, as it set by the ECB. I like to think that remaining outside a
single currency and federal legislature would give the UK the
flexibility to do what's best for the country.

I just don't think, unlike the US, we are unified enough as a people
in Europe. National interests turn every piece of European legislation
into a befuddled mess of amendments, get out clauses and special
conditions that are costly and nullify the intent of the original
idea. Don't get me started on 'let's talk about it again in 2010 , eh
    boys?' CAP.

On the other hand I would hope that an inclusive legislative body
would stop the kneejerk, populist laws that we are often saddled with.

In fact, there are 22 more miles of canal in Birmingham than in
    Venice.

Perhaps the more appropriate question to ask is how many people of
Turkish origin are there in the German team as they make up a
significant proportion of the population (c. 5% I believe). Germany
having improved its economy on the back of Turkish Gastarbeiten.

I also voted yes, not really because of grandiose notions of federalism,
but simply because of history. I thought a united Yoorp would avoid
future Yoorpeen wars in which I'd likely be called up.

    Totally selfish, I know.

The **** certainly isn't speaking for me in his views. Sure, there are
things about Yoorp that piss me off, but there are probably things about
    me that piss Yoorp off.

I've always been a Yoorpeen, and proud of it.

But I reserve the right to slag it off.

I have a feeling that's bollocks. Unless you really stretch the
    boundaries of Birmingham.

I rode the circuit of canels around Birmingham yesterday and only did
30 miles. So Venice must have one very short canal.

Back in the '30s, it would have been more appropriate to talk about
Austrians. The German national side was rubbish, and the Austrians were one
of the best teams in the world. Post-Anschluss, all the Austrian players
    got "conscripted".
