Polishing writing out - Akrapovic race can

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Matt E Mulsion, Jun 17, 2004.

  1. Has anyone tried to polish out the stamp that says 'not for road use'
on a titanium finish akrapovic race can? I have seen it done
successfully on a whole range of cans but a few people have expressed
concern that if I try it on my titanium finish can, it may lose the
titanium look and go really bright and shiny where it has been heavily
    polished. Any ideas anyone?

Saw it off with a hacksaw before the writing.

Heavy polishing in "bright and shiny" shocker.

    WTF?

Why, though? If you're going to get pulled, you're going to get pulled
because your can sounds too loud, rather than because of some markings on it

I polished out the "not for road use" markings on my titanium Remus
cans when I had the TRX, using Autosol and a certain amount of elbow
grease. *However* the marking on these cans was on the back,
underneath the exhaust output, and this part of the can was Stainless
    steel.

    So, not really very helpful.

(Matt E Mulsion) somehow managed to post:
Titanium changes colour with heat. Polish it slowly, and for a very
long time, or keep it cool while you're doing it i.e. "Don't use a
    drill mop, dry".

  7. I think the idea is though you might still get pulled you'll (hopefully) not
    get done for it.

My mate bought some small oval plates with the "e1" markings on them (via
    eBay)
he pop riveted these to his akrapovic's on his SP1

ebay has some self adhesive ones

Pulled the other week for small plate, and the pipes were'nt mentioned
(dunno if this is down to the plates, doubt it)

I doubt that will make it any quieter, which is presumably the effect you
    are trying to achieve.
