My point is that its an article that says 'something happened last
    week'.
There is no attempt to find out why it happened nor who was
    responsible for it happening.
Still it filled up a bit of the paper and they are obviously hoping
    for some
outraged letters to fill up a bit of next weeks too.

Yes, it did... and up until now, it was only 'Disgusted of UKRM' that
    happened to know about it.

Now, anyone thick enough to buy MCN, (given they don't appear to have
been gracious enough to put the article up on their webshite), will
also have the chance to read about what the Keystone Cops have been up
    to of late.
    How do you know that?

Which part of 'lengthy statement' is it you're having difficulty with?

Why do you suppose the flatfoots concerned would feel the need to
    issue such a statement?
See above - I take it 'reading between the lines' isn't your strongest
    suite...

The part where the 'journalist' states that the plod issue a statement
    and makes no attempt
to question them on it nor make them account for their assertion that
    they have made every effort
to minimise inconvenience , which from SteveH's posts here clearly is
    not true.
Or do you think that the story 'Police execute man on Tube - they have
    issued a lengthy statement'
    would be acceptable journalism?

Unless you were privvy to exactly what MCN said to plod, and what plod
replied in answer to it, you cannot determine that to be an absolute.

It *may* have happened like that... the term 'lengthy statement' leads
    me personally to suspect otherwise.

What you haven't been privvy to up until now is that it also appears
that said 'lengthy statement' was issued in response to MCN contacting
plod and not getting said official 'lengthy statement' until they'd
had time to go away and think about it.

Brilliant! I don't suppose another biking mag would be interested in
    that?
