Police on the A47

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Mick Whittingham, Sep 3, 2003.

  1. Went from King's Lynn to Norwich and back yesterday.
Five police cars, four small one estate, all backed into hidey-holes in
    the road side hedges.
On the return most of them had moved to new hidey-holes with the
exception of the estate where both coppers in the front appeared asleep.
(ie. Head back mouth open) The traffic was moving very slowly, I was
    surprised no one had hooted.

On the last round-about before Pentney and Marham there was an artic
overturned. Two coppers working their nuts off, on their own, trying to
control what was a very bad situation for the traffic flow. This had
    happened some hours before.

Any one any idea why parked in the hedge was more important than help
    and why so many?

They really do seem to need a priority reassessment. Fuckwits.

    Take the cost factor.
Cost of helping the motoring public with obstruction = high and
    minus.
Cost of catching speeders = profitable.
    Easy innit?

Things are not always as they seem - tasked operation re robbery etc?
Could be anything but you wouldnt normally have more than a double
crewed car to deal with a rolled artic - they arent going to lift it
    themselves.
I get asked this one all the time - people automatically think traffic
police = speed trap. Dont forget they are the only ones who can
    pursue!

Well, that's not quite true, is it? I'm sure there are lots of others
who can, albeit in special circumstances only.

Some squad/operations people - who invariably come from traffic.

ARV and the like - you're saying they've all served in Traffic first?
And flying squad, Royal protection, etc. etc. Do they all have
    ex-traffic drivers specially then?

In which case not traffic? So often not a massive amount of use at
    RTC`s!
