Well, kind of... Trundling up the M1 this evening, just before the 40 limit stretch I came upon two bikes filtering rather slowly. The rear one had a "Politi" vest on, and Danish plates. The guy in front was a Met bloke on a Pan. At first I thought he was being cheeky and using his siren, but it turned out to be a BedsPlod car some way back[1]. The bikes pulled into a gap, and as I wasn't impeding the car (he was blasting up lane 1 at the time), I thought '**** it' and went past in 2A with a cheery wave. Then the car pulled into lane 2A a little way up (no hard shoulder at this point), and I found myself following as he carved a nice wide filtering lane for me. Very considerate. Mined ewe, once we got to a clear-ish stretch he fucked off at a rate of knots. Considering the circumstances I thought discretion was the better part of valour and left him to it. I was a bit puzzled as to what the Danish janitor was doing out with a Met bloke, both well out of their territory. It must be some kind of exchange program as there was a Gendarme walking down Bishopsgate with a Met copper the other day. Fair made me look twice!
I got a bit confused by seeing two MetMotoPlod and two of their French counterparts heading into Dover ferry port. When we reached the other side, we found that they were escorting London taxi drivers doing their trip to EuroDisney with sick children.
M J Carley says... Thames Valley Police Traffic Division have a little contest amongst themselves to see how far off their patch they can get one of their cars photgraphed. A copper I know has trounced the lot by somehow getting a photo of his marked Omega in the docks at Calais.
**** yeah. I had a very near miss with a fire engine of all things on Sunday as I couldn't for the life of me work out which way he was coming onto a roundabout I was on.
When we were coming out of Calais in the traffic with the London taxis, we saw traffic on a side road being stopped by a Met bike, which seems slightly the wrong side of the limits of his authority.
