    EMPs can be generated with conventional explosive devices too you know,
    all be it on a smaller scale.

  7. Well an EMP device is now a know 'bomb' that is nothing to do with a
    'Nuke' I assumed that as he said 'if you want to use EMP as a weapon.'
    then he was taking about a specific EMP device/bomb, not any sort of
    EMP coursed buy a 'Nuke'.

    EMP devices/bombs where used in the Gulf to knock out power stations.

    I was referring to the EMP as a weapon bit not the altitude of the
    explosion.

    E-bombs

    The E-bomb, capable of wiping out electronic equipment with a huge
    burst of electrical energy into the atmosphere, is one of the newest
    weapons the United States has developed. The sudden explosion of the
    bomb results in an electromagnetic pulse or EMP, working like a
    lightening that knocks out TV or computer, only on a citywide scale.

    The circuits and wiring in electrical devices act like antennas and
    pick up the invisible EMP wave as it moves through the air. The
    affected electronics will either become temporarily disabled or
    completely overloaded and destroyed by the excess energy.

    "Virtually any solid state device is going to go, whether it's a cell
    phone or a US$6 million computer," said Anthony Cordesman, a military
    analyst with ABC News, a major US TV networks.

    Delivered by cruise missiles, the E-bombs can fire millions of watts
    of energy in microwaves, destroying computers, radios, telephones, and
    almost anything that uses transistors, circuits, and wiring.

    US media believe that Iraqi army's underground command-and-control
    stations would be high on the list of targets of the E-bombs.

    Where did the above article come from, Wired ?

    I'll ask again ... how do you intend to generate a decent EMP ?



    The only practicable way of generating a sufficiently large EMP that I
    know of is by a nuclear explosion. Sure you can produce small ones by
    conventional means, but there's nowhere near the energy released by a
    nuclear explosion

    What the septics used to take out power stations was several hundred
    metres of carbon fibre, wrapped around a small core of conventional
    high explosive; this simply laid a web of conductive strands over
    substations and the like, shorting them out in rather a messy, but
    non-radioactive way.
