Apparently you're buying the beer this trip. You said you would.

    said-he-would business, either!)

Ah well. I suspect that within the lifetime of many of us, occupier-
controlled cars will take their place in history. It'll be robot taxis
for the masses, just get in and say where you want to go (fasten your
    safety harness please sir).

Please smile for the safety surveillance camera,
place your finger on the safety fingerprint reader,
insert your safety credit card into the safety tax deductor,
blow into the safety drug analysis machine, and
watch the safety advertisements on the safety video screen.

    Have a safe day.

IIRC, we were all set to be flying around in spaceships by 1980,
much less The Year 2000 (tm). Didn't happen. Matter of fact, cars
really haven't changed in any fundamental fashion (apart from
the bit where everyone has one) since they were invented.

It's gonna take a bit longer than your lifetime or mine, methinks.

... but then any argument is susceptible to dismissal if you
you mean, just maybe you might be wr...wr....wr...wr... mistaken?

Trouble is, systems like that discussed, can and are being installed

I can see the pollies really liking the mug-punters buying kit for one
thing, then it being used "against" them.

Only those without mobile phones can't be tracked.

Dunno if that was an attempt at humour or not, but I can think of at least
half a dozen ways to get around this "problem". Bottom line; to be
accurate, all camera's are going to have to have synchronised clocks. But
here's the least eclectic pair of ideas:
    1. ignore local DST change - work on GMT or fixed GMT offset, and
    2. synchronise each camera to known accurate time source (take your pick of
orbitting atomic clocks in the GPS/Globalstar/GNSS/etc)

Then again, you might have been attempting humour - in which case, heheh.

Well, I wouldn't pay my money to have a gps and comms system, and
potentially a remote control on any vehicle of mine, since it would seem
obvious that such hardware could easily be miss used by those "They"
    bastards.

    Anyway, who'd want a 1978 DX125? ;-)

The pollies will have severe dificulties _making_ folk buy such tricky
gear, but, if folk buy it for some other reason, I can't see the pollies
passing up a chance to take it over in the name of safety.

Sorry Paul, I guess I just failed the reading test... :-(

I don't know if the pollies have figured it out, but I'd be sure that
    some of the safetycrats have.
