Poignant moment

  1. I wouldn't like to offend.

Suffice to say that when I wrote 'A man after my own heart', and the
accompanying footnote, it wasn't a joke. Thus your 'my sides are splitting
here' represented a complete and lamentable failure to understand. Is that
    clearer now ?

If it is that upsetting then either delete it or give up work and travel
to asia to help with the manpower shortage. I am sure that the help
    would be welcome.

  5. As I am essentially a lazy sod, whilst the thought of giving up work
appeals, going to Asia does not, so I think I'll just delete it.

  8. Heh, now that actually did make me laugh. Don't think I fancy Thailand
    though (not keen on flying).

  9. Done.

The delay was in thinking, should I or shouldn't I send it on to all and
    sundry (decided not to).

Again, you fail to understand. I'm either an argumentative fucker who
likes to disagree for the sake of it, or I'm a brown-noser. You can't have
    it both ways.

My comment was more about how Cane's irreverance in the face of what can
only be termed state (and therefore almost institutionalised) hypocrisy,
struck a chord with me. To use smaller words, I fail to see why we should
'pity' the dead. It's the living who deserve our pity.

Anyway, I'm about to leave this lovely University library in Paris's
St-Paul district, and go and have a coffee at the Sully café, on rue
St-Antoine. Anyone who cares to, can join me. I'll probably answer any
    replies to this, later on.

<aside: the belle Sophia has just walked past ... phwoaar, I likes
    university libraries !!!>

Or was it along the lines of the chap sending e-mails to families
telling them their loved ones were dead?

Yes, I know I am a cynic, it is so much nicer when I am wrong.

Flip side of that one is that the kid in the picture probably has had a
good life up to that point not so for the rest.

I should imagine this is already being done by aid agencies, if it isn't
    then it soon shall be.
The effort is wasted on achieving nothing of value.

  12. Yeah, right.
    Oh yes, much.
I "got" Cane's remarks, and as I know his sense of humour, it did not
    offend.
Yours just smacked of toadying and trying to be "right-on".

Good. The correct answer, though, would be to not send it on to
_anyone_. Whether it's genuine or not, it's basically a virus.

  15. Well, I am not too fond of flying, coupled with the thought of leaving my
kids [1] orphaned in a foreign country should anything happen to me and
    SWMBO.

[1] Whilst the flying thing is still there, the kids thing is not such an
issue [2] as they are both in their teens and would probably relish the
    thought of inheriting my millions.
[2] It didn't even exist as an issue until I received this bloody email,
    either.

  16. No, I don't think that was the case at all. As you say, a misguided attempt
to help. I have no idea where my friend received it from either, it's
prolly one of those "viral marketing" type jobbies.
2 years is a bit short though. Wonder what the future holds for him now.
It ought to be done. The banner on the Sky News channel with messages from
survivors was a good idea, although there wasn't one from my sister in law
and nephew who are out there.

Bollocks is it. From my place ...

604 to Newcastle from Prudhoe high street.
2 minute walk to the coach station.
Onto the Express coach to ...

Hang on a minute, sorry, I was thinking of "Birmingham".

    As you were.

  18. The jury here is out on this one
The kid in the picture is not dead, he's apparently alive and nobody has any
idea of who he is or where he's from.
You lucky bastard, I really must do Paris again, soon [1]
[1] I really do like Paris.

It's fucked up my day so I don't want to do similar to others.
