Having today fitted a shiny new chromium towel rail in the bathroom I am unsure. On the one hand, they must be gods, as how exactly are mere mortals supposed to make solder flow uphill into an 8mm microbore fitting. I have tried and tried and believe me, it isn't easy. Having fitted the bloody thing I now need a new carpet due to the blobs of solder / flux and generally liberal irrigation with Fernox. My system has been filled / drained approximately 8 times this afternoon, and quite frankly I am fucked off by the whole affair. On the other hand, anyone who makes a living successfully doing the above shit on a daily basis must be an arsehole, surely? In uk.rec.motorcycles, Dan L amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: No, it makes you an arsehole for not being able to do it and then complaining about it.
Immaculately clean, plenty of flux and a bit of practice - capillary action does the rest piece of piss I see them from the other side - while there are some good ones out there, there are a lot of clueless twats out there who don't have the first idea
Capillary action and a nice blowtorch. Copper conducts heat rather well, so the joint needs to be very hot with nothing taking the heat away.
I did do it. All bloody afternoon it took. And now the whole heating system appears to be fubared. I used a couple of old ceramic tiles as a soldering base, and luckily the carpet isn't too bad. Well, now here's the bit guaranteed to raise a titter.....I bloody work for a mechanical services / heating company. Oh how they'll laugh when I ask on Monday if one of the chaps can pop round to sort it out. -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R (Going) Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X (Patio Ornament) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), X-FOT#000, DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
In the cold light of the following day, the boiler safety was the culprit. I guess isolating the heating whilst leaving the water heating active was not a good idea, and the boiler fired up whilst dry. Anyway, all reset and sorted, no signs of any leaks (yet) -- Dan L (Oldbloke) My bike 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr M'boy's bike 2003 Honda NSR125R (Going) Spare Bike 1990 Suzuki TS50X (Patio Ornament) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005), X-FOT#000, DIAABTCOD #26, BOMB#18 (slow)
