plug tubless tire?

I just picked up a screw (about a #8) in my rear tire (Avon Venom X, MT90)
of my Sportster. It caused a slow leak and I was able to fully plug it with
    a single plug strip.

I never tried plugging a bike tire before, but this one only has 900 miles
on it, so I would be inclined to try it.

Anybody out there plug a bike tire? Is it safe to do?

    thanks,

Yes, the plugging is relatively safe. It's just the subsequent riding that
    can be dangerous. <g>

  3. You mean you used a *gummy worm* on a motorbike tire? It might blow
out. Look around for the Stop N Go tire plugging kit that has expanding
mushroom type plugs. The air pressure inside the tire pushes on the
mushroom head and the carcass grips the stem of the mushroom. If you're
going to plug a tubeless tire from the outside, that makes the most
    sense...

Believe it or not, those mushroom plugs have been around for repairing
tubeless tires for about a century now...

A glued on internal patching plug makes the most sense of all if you're
going to try to repair a tire, but the tire has to be removed from the
    rim to do that...

Don't mess around with anything like Slime or Ride On. They contain
propylene glycol that is corrosive and will eat holes in your rims,
regardless of what the manufacturers claim. Besides, if you've Slimed
the inside of your tire, Seal N Air or any other latex-containing
    aerosol won't seal small leaks...

Plugging a tire is kind of a screwy thing to do anyway. Suppose you do
pick up a nail. If you plug the tire, the first thing the instructions
tell you to do is to bugger out the hole and make it bigger so you can
stick the plug through the larger hole...

If you started out with a 1/16th of an inch hole in your tire, if you
just pull the nail out and shoot a large can of Seal N Air in there,
chances are the internal rubber sealing layer will heal itself anyway
and plug up the nail hole on its own...

Tire apes supposedly get all pissed off at people who use Seal N Air,
claiming that the aerosol propellant is flammable and therefore
"hazardous". Personally, I don't CARE what a minimum wage tire ape
thinks when my $150 tire gets a nail in it, I'm going to try to save
myself buying another tire right away!

    Thank you Krusty,

Very helpful. I did not know about the Stop N Go plugging. I will use it.

    Thanks again,
