    Irbit meets Milwaukee. Fat-boychik.

Seems fitting. The shiny black ones are pretty though.

Heh. Smoking toggle. Now that's character. Will it grant wishes? ;-)

Sounds plenty fun. Daft? Eh, of course. Half the charm I suppose.

Make sure the chair is on the left. You can only get 2WD with right-hand
    chairs, but they're illegal in the UK. It's prolly a 650 kickstart-only.
The Ural has (or had, dunno if the 750s are different) a roller-bearing big
end, and monograde is supposedly prefered because of this. Tyres should be
round and inflated, but beyond that, it doesn't matter what they are -
cheapest is best. There's a variety of combinations (sorry) of rear ratio
and wheel size to make the speedo over- or under-read. If he's got extra
wheels lying around, have 'em: the wheels are all QD so you can carry a
second spare with an ugly big MX tyre for taking the thing off-road, and put
a 16" rim on one for adapting the outfit for continental use. It really
ought to have reverse gear - there's few things as useful and ridiculous at
    the same time...

So. Something pretty terminal happened to the tank, and it got replaced
with something else that was close to hand. The brakes have also been
replace, with god only knows what. It got so manky and rusty that it had
to be re-sprayed. The electrics are in an unsafe condition. The same
person responsible for these wonderful modifications - and presumably the
need for them - has also been taking care of servicing for 20,000km,
(assuming the oddometer has been working correctly), and did such a good
job of it that the crank had to be replaced.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Czech ones weren't bad either (they were terrible, but not "bad").

So, who's got the Jawa then?

  13. Well, I didn't buy it. The electrics were in a bit of a state -
indicators on the chair not working, headlight not working (maybe
bulb...?), and the sidecar was just a shell with no seat.

For ukp700, I couldn't be arsed. New front tyre maybe ukp40, seat - God
knows. Find something from a car scrappie. Sort out all the electrics.
Bulbs. Probably new brake linings. Tax it, MoT it, and you're getting up
    to maybe 900 quid.

Mechanically, it seemed fine. Started second kick from cold and ran very
well. But I don't want to risk that sort of dosh on something I may have
to throw away if/when catastrophe strikes. I can get a decent Jap
mid-range combo (some ShiteOld550 wiv Squire chair) for not much more
    money.

He was saying he'd take offers, and I left a number, so if he comes back
with a price tag somewhere around half what he was asking, I might bite.

Fix that, or you'll forever be resoldering the joints inside.

    Factory standard, I remember.

He's just rung to say he's got all the electrics sorted - dodgy

The Older Gentleman was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
He's lashed it together so it'll last until your out of sight, then
    it'll go up in flames.
    Quite.

  19. I was thinking of seeing if you fancied viewing it (it's in SE London)
as a sort of second opinion, but then I tohught the last thing I need is
    a Timo reocmmendation.

I'll see. I might offer him ukp350-400, because that's the sort of dosh
I can afford to throw away if it all goes pear-shaped.
