Plastic meets exhaust

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Stephen Calder, May 8, 2004.

  1. I wore my new rainpants on my new bike for the first time. As I was
wheeling the bike into the shed (sitting on it) the pants touched hot
exhaust on both sides. Triple bummer. Rainpants ruined, chromed exhaust
covered in burnt plastic grunge and no riding in the rain until I get
replacement gear (or put up with wet jeans).

I'll get the grunge off with E-Z Off oven cleaner, no worries.

    My mistake was:

    A) Not getting off the bike and removing rainpants before wheeling in.

    B) Buying the wrong rain gear.

    Any guesses?

Don't need to remove the pants, just learn how to move the bike without
    touching the pipes.

For example, if they are too flaring, then get a set of the reflactive
anklets cyclists wear and use those to tie the pants close to your
    boots.

Besides - unless your exhausts are in a very strange place, it's only
the bottom inside of the pants that are burnt. So... duct tape! For
extra insurance, duct tape and some cheap shower curtain.

you need to invest in a soccer ball repair kit and an old shower curtain
    , and be more careful.

duct tape. put it on both sides and it will seal fully.

i had a small hole on my knee from a fall. duct tape on both sides and it
    holds, and stays waterproof.
