Does anyone know of a way to get genuine Yamaha plastics at reasonable
prices? My dealer sells them, but they sure ain't cheap[1]. I've finally
got around to thinking that I should replace the damaged fairing panels on
my R6, as repairing them seems fraught with unhappiness (cue horror stories
about Dream Machine) - and I'll sell the scratched ones on eBay for some
recompense. I want to upgrade my R6 at some stage and I imagine the 'as
new' look will do me more favours than the 'has been used' look.

    [1] Gory details:
    Fairing RHS top £226.67
    Fairing RHS lower £201.75
    Seat unit £149.14
    Headlight unit £300.61

  2. Surely this ^^^^ and this:
    are never going to happen?

I take it fleabay doesn't produce the goods?
Could you take a pattern part (as in would it be any cheaper?) and have
    it de-caled correctly?
    Indeed.

    Litrebike for sir?

Nah, eBay is filled with panels much like my own. I wonder why eh?
The trouble is getting the colour and decals to match may put me in a
    Dream-Machine-woe scenario.

Suits me? Ooooh, I do hope so.

  7. Hmm. Spose. Just have to make sure you sell to a numpty!

Well, it is an R6, and we know the kind of clientelle that they attract :)
Actually I was thinking of a year-old Fireblade, there are some good deals
to be had on '03 models. My second choice would be an R1 as I really do
enjoy the R6 and I figure that they can't be that different to ride aside
    from the obvious power/torque difference.

The only close-to-litre bike that I've ridden for an extended period of time
(a month) was a ZX-9R, and I have to say that all things considered, the R6
is the better bike for me due to its lighter weight....so I won't be buying
    one of those.

A certain Suzuki clutch basket has put me off the Gixxer, and tales of woe
    regarding corrosion don't help matters.

I suppose a series of test rides will really help me to decide either way.
    All good fun :)

I suppose a lot of the price difference (which is huge) is down to the lack
of paint/decals on the race plastics. According to the Yamaha dealer, the
"original" items are so expensive because most people just repair theirs, so
there is little demand. I'd love to know where all the people get their
plastics repaired - the dealer just recommended Dream Machine :-(

Thanks, but the parts they sell for the R6 look as damaged as mine are
    already! :)

  11. I noticed that the place I got my tyres done (sterling motorcycles -
google/faq) also do decals. Custom designed or standard. Just in case
you fancy getting a quote like.

Bollocks. Viscious circle innit, they're too expensive to buy, so people
repair their own. If they were cheaper, more people would just replace
them, instead of being bothered to repair.
