Just to update anyone who's been following the ongoing saga of the nutters
that live next door but one to me.

We received notification yesterday that their appeal over the enforcement
notice compelling them to remove their fence - top barricades has been
    rejected.

Woo hoo, the next few weeks should be interesting.

ATM they are away, so they won't have seen the good news yet.

Apparently a national paper is now nibbling at the story too.

I am a bit lukewarm about it, as I feel that legal channels are the best way
to deal with these arseholes. However, I am not ultimately paying the legal
fees (my next door neighbour is), therefore I don't really have a lot of say
in how it will proceed. Also, I have already lambasted the Oxford Mail for
the tabloidesque way they presented the story a few months back, **** knows
what the nationals would do with it. I also don't really want either
Bicester or indeed my street to become notorious or associated with racism,
as that is not the case.

too late. At least, the woman that's leading the anti-asylum-seeker
holding station is from Bicester, I think.

well, I was looking at the "notorious" bit in particular.

So you think all asylum seekers are scum, do you?

I don't actually agree with you.

The anti asylum centre lot were mainly coming from a "not in my back yard"
point of view, coupled to a degree of "the location is unsuitable for this
type of establishment" thinking, rather than outright xenophobia or racism.
Unfortunately, the NF and BNP thought Bicester would be a prime place to
rally support. They seem to have been disappointed to date, but who knows
what way the proles are likely to vote if some sort of asylum / detention
    centre is built.

It's been a bit of a storm in a teacup IMHO, there was similar outrage when
they planned to build the prison in the mid 1980's. That still went ahead,
and now you'd hardly know it was there.

Essex has just set a precedent with regard to pikeys living 7 miles away
the other side of the agribusiness estates and council tax which is
going to have interesting legal test case spin-offs for this sort of
    thing.

    Bear says...
Hundreds. Bedford is swarming with Bosnians, Kosovans, displaced Kurds,
and all manner of minority groups. I spend a huge amount of time in
South and East London, two areas that are also home to thousands of
assylum seekers. I've met some really good people amongst them, but
unfortunately most of those I've met are cunts.
    Not a clue.

Some bloke has got his house rebanded because he lives near a traveller
'settlement'. It took the Appeal Court to do it but he is now 400 a
year better off in terms of his council tax liability and the precedent
is set. He didn't mention how much the extra security is costing him
    though.

The reference to 7 miles away is because this all happened in
'Billericay' and a number of 'Billericay' residents have been lending
their support against these 'undesirables' despite the action going on
in the next village down the road from me and I am at 3 miles the other
side of town from any of them. It is happening in a place called Crays
Hill which used to be in Wickford until some recent boundary changes.

The agribusiness bit is simply because all farm land between here and
there is in the same fixed asset register.
