That's worse than I imagined. I'd actually thought she was assuming it
might have been built on top of the seabed, rather than drilled under
it, and just couldn't explain herself.

That was her second guess. She asked whether you could see the fishies
    through the train window.

    Not in the slightest.

Other gems I've written down include:

    "250,000, that's not quarter of a million"
"I didn't know the Romans came from Rome"
"Salmon and lobster aren't seafood, are they?"

    Well not really.

Years and years ago I went, in the company of a nymphomaniac, to Jersey
to live for a bit. The 7 seater aeroplane(?) we were travelling on also
had a consignment of day old chicks in the cargo area at the back. When
the plane landed these little creatures all started cheeping furiously.
"Oooo," she said, "I can hear the seagulls, isn't it exciting"

  6. Well, she's practically an American, so that's an entirely
    understandable reaction.

I used to think that "out of the mouths of babes" section in FHM was all
    made up.

    Not anymore.

Presumably you were elsewhere at the time, drinking and enjoying the company
    of less-insane people...?

Recent graduate recruit at work: claimed to not know much history.

    I asked a few questions:

"When did Neil Armstrong walk on the moon?

    "1985?"

    No, you're sixteen years out."

    "Oh. 1999?"

Many moons ago I was asked by a colleague why so many quoted Japanese
companies had "Nippon" in the name.

  13. Don't ever take her via the Oresund crossing between Denmark and Sweden.
She'd never be able to comprehend it.

or take the Airport line from HK Airport into town as it crosses the
Tsing Ma bridge inside an enclosed deck below the road deck. It
resembles a tunnel and thus goes over the water ;-)

    http://www.tsingma.com.hk/Web_pages/Intro_tmca/tsing_ma_bridge_e.htm

To be moderately fair to her there are some underwater tunnels that are
built in sections and then immersed into the water rather than bored
    through the seabed.
LOL! - absolutely classic stuff that is definitely off the end of the
    boggle-o-meter.

Not quite the same, but my SO has a habit of getting her words muddled.
    Like:
"Every time I talk to her she goes off on a tandem."
