No, Zen is generally viewed as the type of ISP who primarily provide a
damn good, reliable connection for users who are technically savvy and
generally don't need tech support. Email/news is secondary. Or was
anyway, I think they're getting popular and are concentrating on
email/news sides of things to become more "AOL"ish, unfortunately IMHO.
Have you complained about the person who lied to you? I'm damn sure
that the boss(es) would like to hear about any of their sales sheep who
are deliberately lying to gain sales.
Used PlusNet, Demon and a few other small ISPs before Zen. Their
connectivity, news and email were fucking dire (not all for all ISPs
obviously, but still bad). Being on the User Forum Committee with
access to the manager of Force9 opened my eyes to the growing pains of
    all ISPs though.

Having just applied to move from 512Kbps uncapped to a
2Mbps capped at 1MB system, it's because it will suit my
needs better and I can save money.

If I want to d/l large amounts it'll probably be a
movie or two and I'd rather have it quickly and then
(probably) pay the extra for breaching the cap
rather than wait for it at 512K.
    *squeak*)

Why on earth are people happy to move back to "charge per Mb download"?
God, 28.8Kbps modems for goalposts and all that...

Oh, and did you know you're all guinea pigs? PlusNet are tied in with
BT as one of BT premier partners or something like that, meaning they
get to test out things like the 8Mb service first, i.e. fix all the
problems amid the wailing and gnashing of users teeth :)

Best of luck, so long as it's not Hull you'll be ok.

It's not a lot of money, but is it value for money? If I switch back to
the crappy BT one, I'll get 95% of the posts, and the occassional complete
renumbering of articles. Then the question is, is a realiable feed worth
    10 Euros to me.
I suspect that you may be right. I'd like to think that in the battle of
the ISPs, there is incentive to offer the best services per pound.
However, usenet users are surely a small minority group, and therefore not
necessarily going to be catered for. If I ran an ISP, I'm not sure I
could be bothered with a full usenet feed.

  11. Agreed - I think more and more it will be sidelined (more sidelined
than it is currently). Apart from anything else, a full feed is big
    bandwidth these days.

Yeah. I shall take a stack of books and the laptop. I don't know if
I'll have net access, but I can do a bunch of work on some stuff I
    want to write.
    <g>

My interview was 2 mins on the phone.

    "Are you any good?"
    "I fucking rock, mate"
    "Job's yours."[1]

I shall now be spending my weeks in Dorest, and the weekends in
Derby. Untill I can get a proper job anyway.

[1] May not be word for word, but that's the jist of it. Telling
them I was a big fish in a pond much bigger than theirs also seemed
    to help.

Well, it'll do. It's not what either of us want, but it's short term
and I need the money. I've not done any signifcant amount of work
for almost 6 months, and as the house still isn't sold <stamps on
rant> paying the mortgage is going to get tricky soon.
I would think so, yes. Having said that, I did similar at the
interview last week. This was for an actual project, they wrote it
all down, said thank you and gave the job to someone else.
Yeah, I've been turning work away for a couple of months, because
it's not what I wanted. What I want is less of a concern now, paying
the bills is what I need to do.

I take it if an ISP had a very good newsswerver that serves binaries up
you'd think they're quite good? (provided the rest is OK)

I'm curious (fatal flaw, I know), why not use bittorrent or other p2p
thingy to grab the files? Isn't it more reliable? Bloke I know grabs
loads of DVDs this way, so they're out there.

mean, its *PEANUTS*!!! 2.5 pints! 40 ciggies! 2 gallons of gogo juice!

Oh FFS are they going to pollute my entire childhood.

Nermal is a cute kitten. That is his whole being. He wears mud packs

Probably a good choice. I accompanied a a small person, and found
that Jennifer Love Hewitt provided the only reason to keep watching
    the screen.

  19. I can lend you the DVD if you like. I loved it, but that's probably
due to the fact my fat cat, Cains, resembles Garfield in so many ways.
