Any good? I'm thinking of moving ISP.
*Much* better now than they were. There's a new one, in addition to the binaries one and the text one, which gives so much (lots!) free d/l a month then charges for extra. Also, 1Mb is now the price of 512k (£23.44 a month) and existing 512k customers are going to be upgraded free. Yayyy! Si
I've been using the text news server for a couple of weeks, with no problems. The full server that also supports binary groups used to be very slow, but I have not used it for a year or so.
Pipex are good. I've been with them for about 18 months. [Two sheds wrote:] Not as fast as the Germans but good enough. It takes about 5 minutes to see your message. Is this true?! Whooppyy!
Yes we are: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=2114 But I don't know when. It has been done to death on the adslguide forum and apparently if you wait it will cost nothing but could take up to 6 months. If you go to MyPipex and pay the UKP 15 regrade fee you can jump the queue, maybe. I'm waiting to see what happens. The main thing is it's still uncapped!
I don't know but I can't wait to find out <Phones Pipex> ------- It's a BT wholesale thing so all ISP's will be upgrading people although some will impose caps. I emailed Pipex about it and they said it's up to BT as they are upgrading each exchange and haven't told pipex when they're doing which ones, but all should be done in 6 months. http://www.pipex.net/investors/pressreleases/pr/press_release_page.php?id=198 Tom
? It's as good as the German one for me. Perhaps it's different around the country? Ho yes. Whoopee indeed! Si
Thanks, Tom. One thing they haven't speeded up is the time you have to wait for them to answer the phones.
Thanks, Tom. One thing they haven't speeded up is the time you have to wait for them to answer the phones. Well BT have upgraded my connection from midnight LAST night to 2mbs Quick......I'll say so. Also same price. -- -- Robbo Trophy 1200 1998 BotaFOF #19. E.O.S.M 2001/2002/2003/2004. B.O.S.M 2003, 2004 FURSWB#1 KotL..YTC449 PM#7 ..
It's the principle. *paying* for usenet? Whatever next! I don't do binaries, I'm a light user and I don't want to share the pot with bandwidth slurpers.
Same here - I'd be tempted by the 1Mb offering from Pipex if they offered a static IP in the price - but they don't so I wont.
I think 6.50ukp per year is OK - NIN have put enough in over the years that it's only fair we chip in a bit towards the costs. It's only a matter of time before free servers disappear altogether isn't it.
That's good! BTW, do you know of any booze that's guaranteed to get a shag?[1] [1] Good looks and charm only goes so far.
