    Hi all,

My GF has finally seen the light :) Sold the little 250 Rebel cruiser
and she's now got a VTR250. Great bike for what it is.

She rode my 1000 and just HAD to have something similar. It's totally
standard and we want to get a pipe on it to make it much louder and
meatier. Not really for performance, there isn't much to be had, but
    just for the sound.

Any ideas what to get? She's been told by a number of places to get a
    Madaz muffler, any good?

Also, the setup requires cutting the original off and welding on the new
one. Do you think it's worth getting another set of full pipes to put
hte muffler on, and then if we want to sell the bike, we can put the
standard set back on for a roadworthy if there is any problems?

    cheers,

    James

  3. If you just want to make some racket get your bike shop to order in a
generic muffler from MCS (Motorcycle Specialties). MCS supply loads of
generic gear levers, brake and clutch levers, blinkers etc etc. On
my/my GF's VT250 both mufflers were rusted out so I just bought two
cone shaped ones (there are a variety of shapes) for about $70 ea.
They're a "universal" fit so you have to drill a hole or two in the
bracket (supplied) but they fitted in about 10 mins. They're straight
through diffusion mufflers so loudness is guaranteed.

  4. Don't bother.

Save the money for another bike, or matching leathers.

The headers/can is all in one set up (as you have noticed) and changing it
back for rego is a pointless task (plus you may need to rejet between
changes). If you want it louder (and meatier) why do suddenly become gun
    shy at rego time?

Yeah, my old Spada (same motor as the VTR250) had a Staintune which
sounded quite nice, and it was louder than stock, but still legal (89db
I think it measured at). Staintune will give you a label to stick on it
that'll see you through rego no worries.

YOU need Akrapovic....and a handy spannerman.

Head on out to Vic Motorcycle Wreckers and hassle them for a system or head
down to Chapel St armed with tools for a clandestine operation!

They're out there, but they usually get snapped up pretty quickly.

They are rare, and therefore precious.

  12. Conversion is easier. Get 'em hooked from the pillion seat, then chuck
'em the keys to their own bike so you can go back to enjoying yours ;-)

ok so some think staintune is a bit of alright...i have been told by
zillions (well maybe not) of people that madaz is the way to go..and
also neptune mufflers in NZ...Im heading off to vic mc wreckers today
they have an exhaust and a few other things i want there and motorbits
has 2...so worth a look and a chat to see whats actually involved i
    reckon

...hopefully i can find someone with a staintune muffler so as to hear
    this for myself...

What's wrong with a length of steel reo down the muffler and a bash with a
    sledgehammer?
