SWMBO and I are off to Ireland shortly for the grand tour round the
country. Besides having a real Guinness, I want to sample the local
    beers/ales/bitter.

So, any suggestions? What (on average) does a pint cost?

the cont known as muddycat says...
Ireland doesn't really do local beers/ales etc

    Try Smithwicks and Harp.

    Prices should be around ¤4

They don't *do* beer in Ireland. If you have a sweet tooth, try a
    Murphy's -- though I can't stand the stuff myself.

  10. Good Luck.
As others have said, they dont do real beer.
They dont do real food either.
For a country that produces some of the finest beef, dairy and seafood
in the world they make a piss poor job of turning it in to edible
    meals.
Go west, dont bother with the east or south coasts. Nowhere near as
spectacular or friendly as way out west.
Black stuff at 3.80 Euro a pint.

There are some world class chefs here, especially down Kinsale way.

It was certainly the case some years ago that the standard of grub on
offer for travellers was awful in most places, but things have generally
improved all round. The main gripe now is the cost of eating out, hidden
inflationary factors have taken their toll.

That said, you can eat well if you pick your place.

  12. Sounds like Scotland, except that the standard of Scots grub is grim
    everywhere.

Some of the best raw materials in the world (amazing beef, glorious
salmon, superb cream, fabulous raspberries, etc) and they **** it up
    every time.

Being in the colonies, I'm not up on the latest changes. The cans[1] of
Guinness I get say brewed at St James Gate.

I remember Bulmers Original cider being available. Makes a refreshing
change should it get warm. Fermented in Tipperary from Irish apples.

Website makes a big thing about "not being associated with HP Bulmer of
    Strongbow fame"
