Pinlock visors

They hadn't invented these when I last had a bike. I've always made do with
a quick spray of anti-mist every so often, but these look like they might be
    a permanent solution.

Anyone use one? Are they any good?

    TIA

I just fucked up my visor today. It's on my Shoei x-spirit ffs. I
caught it on the door on the way out. it's scuffed, bad enough for a
    sunny day.

This is one reason I prefer Enduro type helmets & goggles. I never use
the pinlock, I just keep the visor open one click & it has never fogged
up, unless stationary. Then, i just open it two clicks.

So, another visor it is then.

Do exactly what it says on the tin. No misting; at all.

But, they never quite seemed in the right place for me though, on the
last three Shoeis I had, as I'd often find the top edged of the inner
visor just in my line of sight, so I'd have to push the whole helmet
back a bit to see, if I was leaning forward at just _that_ angle.

Was yours a factory fit? I see there is a DIY version - I'm wondering if I
can get one to fit on my cheapo Caberg. I'm a bit more upright on the
Bandit than you might be, so the cut-off may not be a problem for me. I can
stand any discomfort on a bike, wet, cold, whatever, but I *hate* not being
able to see where I am going. If the Pinlock is as good as you say it is,
it could be the thing I have been looking for for about 30 years. May be
the wrong time of year now, but I'll look into it for sure in time for the
    autumn. Thanks for the help.

Get a new one. Cheap at the price.
Goggles always mist up with me, and you can't flick them up like a visor
when they do. My Shoei was always fine if I left it open about the
thickness of the end of my glove finger, but the Caberg gives me enough
draught to make my eyes water over about 30mph, unless it is tight shut.
Aye, spring for a new one.

On the Shoei it had to be fitted by me. The pins are there, but the
liner needs to be fit. They don't look right to me, but i'm an awkward
    git.

Anyway Rich, you shouldn't be steaming up this time of year, what you
    doing you dirty dog?

Get yourslef a pinlock visor & I'll send you my Shoei insert for nowt.
    It might fit.

Well, they might be, but I cant find one locally. Otherwise it's silly
    money for shipping.

Might try some toothpaste on it, nowt to lose.

I was just reading in one of the mags that they've come out with a new
    version that addresses this problem.

I hope it works with the old pins.

I've had one for about 18 months and it's been fine. It was fitted by
the shoppe. It's used at least twice a day 6 days a week in all
weathers so it's got baked, frozen and soaked. When it's raining
really hard and I open the front of the visor a bit to get some air
droplets of water will run down the inside of the helmet over the
pinlock but it doesn't appear to have done it any harm.

I'm in the market for a new visor soon (old one is a bit scratched)
and they're not cheap to replace.

TheVisorShop.com has the visors for £36 with the pins already fitted.
The inserts are £15 on top of that.

Dunno, but my watch keeps over-winding itself as well.

Nah, I always steam visors up. Living in wet Wales doesn't help - it's only
the last few dry days I haven't had a misty visor at some point in the
    journey.
Thanks for the offer - I'll let you know if I get one.

    Bloody brilliant.

I bought a new Shoei XR1000 the other day and it came with one. Bit
sceptical but I gave it a try.

I cannot get it to fog in normal use. The edge around the pinlock
fogs but the insert doesn't. Only way I can get it to mist even
slightly is if I'm very hot and I breath really hard on it. Even then
it only mists slightly at the bottom edge.

    Highly recommended.

Yes, it was standard on the last one, and simply a replacement Shoei
visor on the ones before that. It's more the angle I tend to hold my
head at, which means I'm often looking ahead through the very top part
    of the visor.

I'm either going for a DIY kit and try to fit one to the Caberg or possibly
spring for a decent lid (pinlock included) for the winter. Thanks, much
    appreciated.

Excellent, yes, used to use Cat Crap - never really worked for me,
fitted the pinlock out of desperation. Never had a problem since.

I use a plastic polish I got from a pilots shop. It's for use on
aircraft canopies, and has something in it that fills in small
scratches. About seven quid a can and mine has been going for a year
now. It kept my Justisimo visor like new for many thousands of all
    weather miles.

It may not be man enough if the scratch is too big. Got a small
airport anywhere near? Ask to try it out in the pilots shop.
