Pink Floyd The Wall...

  1. Oh sure it's simple enough. It's not how I read the copyright laws
though. And I asked in a perfectly civil manner and I'm not winding you
up so I really don't expect a load of swear words from you. For goodness
    sake calm down.

I've always protected my copyright when people have sold illegal copies
of my films. I have not, however, ever tried to enforce any intellectual
property because, quite simply, the riders are the people with the
talent and the 'intellectual property', not me. I just film them.

There's a rough edit of something I'm working on at the moment floating
around the 'net. It doesn't affect any sales, I loose no royalties from
it, no one is trying to profiteer from my work, so I see no problem.
They've technically stolen my intellectual property, but as no money is
involved I see it purely as a massive ego trip that people are actually
    interested in how I work.

Roger Waters may see it differently - I don't.

How many people are quite happy to break speed limits and then whinge on
    about copyright law

You're either a saint or a sinner, you can't be both

Not really. I'm not particularly interested if this is breach of copyright
or not. If anyone want;s to haul me before the beak, then so be it. AFAICT
the copyright owners are not selling this product, so I can't buy one. If
they were to decide to sell it in future, I would almost certainly buy it
as well to go with the 3 copies of the wall that I already own.

  6. He does give the impression of being a bit of ****, doesn't he? Still, he
wrote some good songs so he's forgiven. His (pretty much) Final Cut's one of
my favourites but the other Floyd members aren't at all keen on it, from
    what I've read.

  10. The Final is simply about Roger's fixation on the loss of his dad in
WWII. It's very clever in places but the best tracks are other
peoples', like The Gunner's Dream is Rupert Brooke, maybe with some
MLK. We could argue that the way he is accused of behaving in the
final Floyd split could have put him in "The Fletcher Memorial Home".

Some of the Nuclear War imagery is also good, but enough is enough.

  11. Roger Waters.
Hardly. The loss runs through it and it is dedicated to him but there
is so much more. IMO it's the best album.
No it's not. The only allusion is to 'a corner of some foreign field'.

You may as well say Time is Thoreau.
For all he's a grumpy old man I don't think he's got to incurable
    tyrant yet.
    Pish tosh.

You can't beat scaring shit out of people in a small car with a loud
stereo as the rocket goes over.

Hmm, interesting question. I'm sure the answer has to be yes, even if
    it's unintentionally so.
Very true. However, I wouldn't say this would be a case of someone
distorting, or misrepresenting someone's work. In fact, having thought
about this over the last couple of days I'm of the opinion that, if
Floyd had allowed a rough mix of The Wall to be taken out of the studio
I'm sure we would have heard about it by now. I have a sneaking
suspicion that this version is more than likely the film soundtrack that
    someone's ripped from the DVD.

Really? I'm no Wall anorak, but I spotted three mistakes in the quoted
album lyrics in the first three (randomly selected) tracks.

  20. Well, the point was that the lyrics are different to the album and the
video, and dreadfully different in some cases. Rog's howling in the demo of
One of my Turns fair makes me cringe, it does, and the squeaky "Thank you"
after "Just one of my bad days" too.

It just goes to show what happens between an idea and the end production; I
felt that it was dragged up to date considerably and the majority of The
Pink Floyd's 60's wierdness was completely bashed out of it in the process.

    Good stuff.
