I broke a wheel speed sensor[1] when trying to get it out the hub. It's
a clean break, with the bottom half still firmly stuck in the hub.
There's no sign of any wires in either half where it broke, it just
looks like solid plastic. Will it work if I glue it back together?

I know I could get a new one, but it's 120 quid I could do without
spending, & will take two weeks to come in.

It's more than likely a magnetic reluctance sensor, basically there's
a permanent magnet and a coil in the sensor with some arrangement of
pole pieces such that the rotating teeth make and break a magnetic
circuit that passes through the coil, which generates pulses. If you're
sure that the broken bit hasn't got anything to do with the coil or
the magnetic bits, JB weld it together and you're good to go.

That's what I figured from a bit of googling.
Thanks, if there was anything crossing the break, it's invisible to the
    naked eye.

If you can get the wheel off the ground and spin it by hand, you should be
able to detect an AC voltage coming out of the sensor with a normal DMM.
Basically if there's still pulses coming out it should be OK.

The whole car's in the air with all four wheels off the ground, so
that'll be easy enough to check once I've put the hub back on.

Do you have your own 2 post lift or summat?

Have you considered the possibility I may be lying? I did consider
getting one of those scissor lifts, but decided I don't do enough
crawling around underneath cars to justify the cost.

P.S. I wasn't lying about the car being in the air, but it's on axle
    stands not a lift.

UKRM, lying, ever, no tell me it isn't true.
I also obsess slightly over a hydraulic mobile scissor lift. It isn't the
sort of thing people sell on very often.
